Election Day is tomorrow, Tuesday. Today, urge your friends to vote for Tim Kaine. Email them using the sample text below.
Information on where to vote follows.
Pres. Bush is holding a rally for Kilgore tonight. Tim Kaine is holding his own rallies tonight with Gov. Mark Warner and Kaine needs your help: find a rally
Dear Virginia MoveOn member,
As you know, Virginia MoveOn members overwhelmingly urged us to support Tim Kaine, who would, as governor, "lead Virginia forward by building on the progress made working with Gov. Mark Warner." Soon the ads will end, there will be no more press releases, and it will all come down to you and your ballot. With turnout expected to be much lower than last year, a wave of progressive voters across the state can make an unusually significant difference. That's what happened in Colorado last week, where a measure to allow more funds for education & health care passed.
So your first task today is to make sure you know where to vote for Tim Kaine:
Find out how and where to vote at http://www.moveon.org/r?r
The other thing you can do to help this urgent campaign is to spread the word. The most influential factor for someone who hasn't decided how to vote is the opinion of friends, family, and people they respect. And even though the campaign is almost over, there are always some people who make the decision at the very last moment.
So take a minute right now to send an email with your own personal endorsement. If you have a list of people you send political emails to occasionally, then email them. If not, just think of two or three people who might be supportive or undecided. The email will carry the most weight if you explain in your own words why you support Tim Kaine, but here's a simple outline you can use, and if you want a more detailed description you can copy one from http://political.moveon.org/2005endorse/endorsed.html:
Dear friends,
Tomorrow is Election Day and I'm writing to tell you about something on the ballot I particularly care about. I plan to vote for Tim Kaine, who would, as governor, "lead Virginia forward by building on the progress made working with Gov. Mark Warner." Here's why:
(give your reason here)
That's why I'm voting for Tim Kaine, and I hope you will too. Find out how and where to vote at http://www.moveon.org/r?r=1054.
Sincerely, xxxxx xxxxxx
And if you can take off all or part of tomorrow, the campaign can surely use your help getting out the vote on Election Day. Get in touch with them at http://www.kaine2005.org/volunteer/ or attend one of their rallies tonight with Gov. Mark Warner (while Pres. Bush campaigns with Kilgore) at http://www.kaine2005.org/volunteer/events.php or find a phone number on the campaign website and give them a call.
Finally, our friends at Democracy For America have asked us to share their recommendation as well:
Leslie Byrne for Lieutenant Governor. "For more than twenty years, Leslie has fought tirelessly for working families and against special interests. Through her commonsense values, fiscal discipline and responsible investments in education, transportation and job growth, she has proven she is a stand-out leader." http://www.lesliebyrne.org
Together, let's make the last 24 hours count.
Sincerely,
Adam, Eli, Marika, Tanya and the MoveOn.org Political Action Team Monday, November 7th, 2005
"Election Day is tomorrow, Tuesday. "
Ummmm....That was yesterday.
And Kaine won.
Never mind.
I got your point.
(Boy, am I slow today!)
Turnout for Democrat was up only slightly from the 2001 race, about the same amount as the population increase. Kaine got, I think, about 4% more votes, and there are about 4% more voters, than Warner got in 2001.
So it doesn't look like MoveOn did that well.
Today's victory message from Moveon:
Good election news! Now let's win big in 2006
To turn the tide in the 2006 election, we're hiring a team of experienced organizers to help local MoveOn leaders tie the mess in Washington to individual Republican incumbents.
Can you donate to get our big new program off the ground? Thanks to a matching fund set up by MoveOn members, your contribution will be doubled if you give now.

Victory Report
CA: All Gov. Schwarzenegger's bad measures defeated. Parental notification fails

MN: Chris Coleman: St. Paul mayor
NJ: Jon Corzine wins governorship. Air pollution cleanup plan passes

WA: Bad medical malpractice law fails. Indoor smoking ban wins
Thanks to all the MoveOn members and our allies who helped make these victories happen!
Dear MoveOn member,
Yesterday, from coast to coast, voters demonstrated they're ready to move on from the Bush era. Arnold Shwarzenegger's initiatives were crushed. Virginia, which went for Bush in '04, elected a Democratic Governor. Maine voters soundly supported an anti-discrimination law. And this is just the beginning. Next year most of Congress will be runningand we have a historic opportunity for a "change election" that sweeps Republicans from power.
Today, we're asking you to chip in for an ambitious effort to win in 2006.
How do we make sure that the 2006 election is a referendum on Iraq, Hurricane Katrina, corruption, and George Bush's failed presidency? We're hiring a team of experienced organizers from coast to coast to leverage our most valuable resourcethe 3.3 million MoveOn members. By training and supporting volunteers to organize rapid-response events like news conferences and rallies we can tie the mess in Washington to individual Republican incumbents and make sure that they don't get off the hook.
We need to raise $250,000 now to support organizers through the end of the year. Other MoveOn members have set up a $65,000 matching fund to double your impact. Can you help?

Republicans are desperate to sweep their mounting failures and scandals under the rug. President Bush's lightning appointment of Judge Alito was one attempt to change the subject, and there will be many more.
Our plan is to use big public events to keep the local media focused on the impacts of right-wing ruleand to encourage Democrats to stand up and offer voters a real alternative to the status quo.
Local media was the core of the Bush campaign's communications strategy because it's such a great way to reach folks. Using local media allows us to rely on "real people"like youas messengers, instead of politicians or paid ads.
To get our message out, MoveOn's Operation Democracy network will organize more sophisticated events than we've done in the past, like news conferences, rallies and editorial board meetings. The key to our plan will be a team of experienced staff organizers on the ground across the country. They'll coordinate our work and train volunteers in the necessary skills.
It's a proven approach: during the recent vigils on Iraq, we experimented in some places with having organizers train vigil hosts to do media outreach. In areas with organizers, we found a 70% increase in local press coverage of the MoveOn vigils.
This is a much bigger plan than anything we've considered around a non-presidential election. But we think the time is right and the opportunity is huge. Since we're mostly volunteer-powered, it'll cost us much less than it would other groups. But we still need to raise a substantial sum. Can you help?
$39 will fund this program in a big city for one day. $86 will cover a state for the same period. If you can do it, $605 will fund a week's work in that same state. And because of our matching fund, your contribution will be doubled if you donate now:

The news isn't all good this morning. In Texas, Ohio and a few other places, we lost elections with real consequences (click the link on the box at right for details). But overall, progressive candidates and causes made huge gains yesterday.
So take a moment this morning to savor some of our victories. They're a tribute to the incredible work of thousands of dedicated citizens and a reminder that when we organize hard and put a clear progressive message in front of voters, we can win.
And to all of you who worked so hard on this year's election, thank you for your leadership.
Sincerely,
Eli, Justin, Tanya, Adam and the MoveOn.org Political Action Team

I note the ignored Ohio where they were crushed. Also, I thought they were FOR one of the prescription drug props in California.
And one Californie prop was identical to one in Ohio they were supporting -- but they opposed it in California, because it would hurt them there and help in Ohio.
But true conservatives opposed the redistricting measures in both states, for principled reasons.
Virginia: Elected a governor who promised to be a conservative. Picked up one statewide office, lost one house delegate, keeping a commanding lead (59-39?).
They also skipped Texas: Gay Marriage ban.
New York: Slightly less liberal republican beat liberal dem.
New Jersey: Corzine won by less than McGrevey won in 2001.
Pimp My Hack!
Ohio was good except for Issue 1. The more I read about it the more I see that it is a backdoor plan for taft to put in billions for embrionic stem cell research.
Call your reps in ohio and demand a bill that makes stem cell research in ohio illegal.
This issue 1 is all to get billions into Bob Taft's New Frontier for his legacy.
I wish there had been more money given to the defeat of Issue 1.
