Ping - Interesting fact from Barone's article is Kaine taking exurban Loudoun and Prince William.
I did not expect that at all.
I have been somewhat alarmed at the drip-drip-drip erosion of GOP strength in NOVA. We've been dropping a seat or two in that area at the legislative level each cycle (and not just a win of open Republican seats, but knocking off incumbents). Although we've been picking off a seat elsewhere from old-line rural Democrats, we still lost a seat in VA and inexplicably failed to retake the House seat held by now-Congresswoman Thelma Drake.
As for New Jersey, while Barone said the state may be a tad more Republican than 4 years ago, we continued an erosion in legislative seats, losing 2 more Assembly seats (and after the outcome of a seat with a GOP candidate leading, could either be a 16 or 18 seat disparity - contrasting greatly when we were at or near par just 4 years ago). Despite Corzine's win, I expected the GOP to at least make some legislative gains on the heels of the Democrat scandals, and we ended up with bubkas.
All in all, a very disappointing election.
