I think Foreester came across as a bit of a nasty bastard with those adds attacking Corzine personally (his ex-wife). It clouded his actual politics. Doug Forrester isn't actually an enderaing cuddly type......unfortunately you need a little bit of that in politics.

To any rational person, the little town police dept. should be disbanded, and the township should handle the minimal polciing that the town requires.

Amen to that.

This will not happen b/c everyone in NJ is too attached to their own little fiefdom. There are around 12 little school districts in this county, each with its own superinetendent, who makes 100+K a year.

That sounds like my area here in south Jersey. There was one unified school district several years ago, but the townships each voted to divide it, putting each town in control of its own. Our town did, too, based on the notion that it would lower our property taxes and there would be no more "problem kids" from out of town.

As it turns out, most of our problems were IN town. ;-) And our taxes were raised because we had to build a middle school and, apparently, the municipality was depending on state funds that McGreevey then denied. The other townships did see their taxes lowered, though, at least initially.

Yeah, because Corzine is so warm and fuzzy!

Seriously, though, I don't think it would have mattered. NJ is no longer a Republican state, and that's the bottom line. Schundler ran a clean campaign on the issues (and never brought up McGreevey being gay, even though he knew it was true) and he got his butt kicked. Let's face it, Corzine could have his own boy toy, and he still would have won in NJ.

I'd suspect you're right. The very south and far north went Republican, but that won't carry a state. Time to sell it all and go to PA.

As I continue to say: "Welcome to my cesspool...please wipe when you're through."

Like the Country Club Republicans would give conservatives at turn at the wheel. Yeah, sure. The NJGOP deserved to have its behind handed to them by running like imitation Democrats. One Corzine is enough, thank you.

Exactly. Why vote for a Republican who'll govern like a Democrat. Forrester acted like he was a better Democrat than Corzine. Voters preferred the real one, sure enough.

The people of this lost state will only wake up if their faces are shoved into the mud time after time. Let the Rats enact their program, while the GOP screams all the way. In four years, we may have a real chance.

Same in California. The problem here is that the Rats cannot enact their program without the Republican governor's signature. Damned if we do, damned if we don't.

Lonegan needs to shut his trap. If he REALLY cared to shift the NJ GOP to the right, he could have started by not running in the NJ Primary and torpedoing Schundler's campaign. Lonegan knew he had no shot, yet ran anyway as a bomb-thrower against Schundler, taking away 12% of the vote- a mere 3% of that could have won Schundler the nomination, and he would have been a much better (and more conservative) candidate than Forrester.

Lonegan needs to look in the mirror first if he wonders why the NJ GOP nominated a center-to-left candidate like Forrester.
