In 1960, during a joint press conference with then French President Charles De Gaulle, David Ben Gurion, Israels then prime minister stated that France was Israel's greatest friend. At that moment, De Gaulle interrupted him abruptly, asserting that "France has no friends, just interests." This statement summarizes much of French foreign policy.What a quote!

Irans then ruler, Ayatollah Khomeini, was angry at France for many reasons, particularly because of the asylum granted to prominent figures from the Shahs regime, including former Prime Minister Chapur Bakhtiar, He didn't mind their giving asylum to him when he needed it.

Does anyone else see this as a remarkable essay when you consider it comes out of the Brookings Institution?
Not one anti-American remark nor any weasel wording about Hizbullah's actions being caused by poverty or whatever.
