One of the C&H throw away lines refers to "the spaghetti incident" with no elaboration on what the incident was.

I have used that line in my life with great results. For Example:

Just before you introduce 2 people, say to the first "if he mentions "The Spaghetti Incident", remember, I had nothing to do with it." Then drop the subject and refuse to elaborate on it. It drives them crazy.

I hate to admit that C&H plays any role in my life, however.

I recall Calvin mentioned the Noodle Incident but I don't think Watterson never went into detail and Calvin never fully confessed.

Apparently pasta was the thing in the late-80s / mid-90s .

Other pasta related affairs around that same era include
Guns N' Roses 1993 album of cover songs entitled "The Spaghetti Incident", which, according to wilkipedia, got its name from an incident wherein the band's orginal drummer wrecked the band's apartment in search for his lost "spaghetti"- a term he used for herion.

And then there is the "Linguini Incident", a movie released in 1991 starring Rosanna Arquette and David Bowie about two disgruntled restaurant employees (David Bowie, Rosanna Arquette) who decide to rob their employers (source: IMDB).

My favorite throwaway was the title of Calvin's favorite bedtime stories - Hamster Huey And The Gooey Kablooey.

In the last panel of that strip, after demanding that the story be read to him AGAIN, Calvin says "Wow, the story was different that time!", to which Hobbes responds "Do you think the townsfolk will ever find Hamster Huey's head?"

That's great! I'll have to use that. Good ol' Calvin and Hobbs!
