Texas Voters Approve Ban on Gay Marriage

Texas voters Tuesday overwhelming approved a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage, making their state the 19th to take that step. In Maine, however, a proposal to repeal a new gay-rights law was trailing in early returns.

The contest in Texas was decided quickly _ the ban was receiving more than 74 percent of the votes in early returns. Like every other state except Massachusetts, Texas didn't permit same-sex marriages previously, but the constitutional amendment was touted as an extra guard against future court rulings.

The campaign had been enlivened over the past week because of a controversial tactic by the amendment's opponents, who argued in recorded phone calls to voters that the measure is so poorly worded that it could jeopardize traditional man-woman marriages. Amendment supporters denounced the effort as misleading.

And the really interesting thing is that, at this point, 100,000 more votes have been cast for Prop 2 than for Prop 1, 150,000 more than for Prop 3!

There have been a LOT of folks gone to vote for one thing, and one thing only.

The defeat of this amendment by such a huge margin is great. And to think I worried about the homos and their tricky and confusing advertising, campaigning and posters, which tried to fool many folks into voting NO.

I'm very proud to be a Texan.

You got that (W)right :)

When you see the departures board at Hobby and compare with that at DAL it's enough to make you cry (or get really mad).

But here in Denton County, 19.93% of my precinct voters turned out!
This precinct voted 81.6% in favor of Prop 2!
Denton County as a whole (including Texas Lesbian Woman's University) voted 77.6% in favor!

You wont hear about this tomorrow. I remember the national media saying that this would be a "very close" contest.

Another gem brought to you by the dishonest MSM!

Saddam was a sovereign leader elected by popular vote

I have often wondered why the Rats are such fanatics about how crooked the Florida and Ohio elections were, but never question the 100% vote that Saddam used to received in his elections. Never could figure that out.

If God decided to give Texas an Enema, which County do you suppose He would choose to put the hose in?

Travis County is a big puckered spot in Texas. Seems logical since this is where all the crap comes from!

I've already seen a lib who was for this posting on an apolitical forum that it negates all marriage in the state.

Sounds like the way the left will fight this. If "they" can't have a marriage, then no one can. "Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa".

No one told them how to vote on the other amendments.

Funny thing is they treated the state constitution like the federal constitution and took the stance "we shouldn't clutter it with a lot of unnecessary or redundant amendments". So why didn't the lying liars vote down all of the amendments?
