The "base" in North Virginia is increasingly liberal. The bureaucrats are moving across the Potomoc to get away from Maryland taxes.
Actually, Maryland is taxed lower than VA nowadays, especially if you live in Fairtax / South Massachusetts. I almost cross the Potomac to Maryland to escape the tax levels. As I live close to the bridge, I buy my gas, groceries, and dine in the relative tax haven of Maryland. That's what's sad about what's happened to Virginia.
