Most Americans aren't going to risk going to jail just to stop rioters from destroying property.
They'll leave it to the Police and National Guard.
Sorry, you can sit around and wait for the National Guard to come and put the fire in your car out. I will protect my property in the same way that a business owner in New Orleans might - with deadly force if necessary.
