Bill Clinton: Immigration Crackdown Hurting U.S.
NewsMax.com ^ | Nov. 8, 2005 | Carl Limbacher

Posted on 11/08/2005 7:14:36 AM PST by Carl/NewsMax

Ex-president Bill Clinton is arguing that tighter immigration laws are hurting America, saying the new restrictions aren't worth it even if they stop the "one out of a zillion [foreigners] who might have a bomb."

"I'm very worried that one of the consequences of our tightness on immigration and visas as a result of 9/11 and terror, has led to a drop in many places of the number of foreign students coming to the United States to study and be graduate students," Clinton told an audience at the University of Minnesota on Saturday.

He said the U.S. needed foreign students because "we are nowhere near graduating enough scientists and engineers to maintain, given the size of our economy, a leadership role in the global economy."

Clinton said the terror trade-off wasn't worth it.

"When we got real tough on visas - because one out of a zillion of them might have a bomb - we lost a lot of brains. We might have dodged a bomb but we lost a lot of brains."

On another subject, the former president also praised actress Geena Davis, star of the new ABC Show "Commander in Chief."

"I did see one episode of 'Commander in Chief'," Clinton told the crowd. "Geena Davis is good for two reasons. She looked tough but not macho. She didn't look lion-tough. And she spoke Spanish. So I thought those two things were good."

As I understood it (from what Paula Jones observed) it was a very small sucking sound.

Let me get this right, Clinton says we should let more foreigners in so they can learn at our Universities, go back home and take American jobs with them? How does this help other than more money for Universities?

A smart foreign student would enter California illegally then enter College at the resident rate.

Who was is that said, Klintstone may not be the worst president we ever had, but he is far and away the worst man ever to be president.

Hey, Zippy! If they're foreign students, then once they get their advanced degrees, they'll most probably be returning to their home countries! Sure, some will stay, some to work, others to teach. But most will take their knowledge with them out of this country.

It you really cared about about how this country fares in the competition for high tech expertise, you would have worked against "Big Education" which tends to dumb down the education of native American students.

For your information Billy, the 9/11 terrorist didn't have a bomb but killed over three thousand Americans. Again Billy, if the U.S. is the only place that the foreigners can study then the U.S. hasn't loss anything because; dummy, if they can't study and learn they won't know anything either and America is still ahead. If there is not enough home grown scientists and engineers then give an incentive for American high school graduates who are college material to take science and engineering classes and give or crack down on American companies who try and fix the pay scale of American college graduates. That can be done easily because almost all companies in America have or do most of their work for government contracts or are subcontractors for those companies.

I don't know what crackdown he's talking about. The graduate schools are up their eyeballs in foreign grad students. In many labs there are no US natives. Grad students likely to be terrorists would come from the middle east and there are so of them that even if we banned them completely it wouldn't make a dent in the grad student population. Is Mr Impeachemnt talking about illegal mexican immigrants? Not too many of them are trying to get into grad school. I think KKKlinton is back on the crack pipe.

Not really - Bubba has always been this way. You should read some of the speeches he gives on foreign soil if you want your hair curled. He is an anti-sovereignty, one world globalist who would love to replace Kofi Annan at the UN. Then he and Hillary can finally turn the entire planet into their vision of a Socialist Utopian paradise for us peasants.

Just goes to show you that Democrats think Americans are stupid and that we can train ourselves how to be good scientists. What a bunch of bologna from a half wit! I don't remember us getting tough on visas YET!

"That giant sucking sound you hear is........."

...the oxygen being consumed in the air, as the riot flames burn higher.

Bill Clinton's just playing to the liberals, hoping that the crowds will ask him for an encore. The crowds must love Bill Clinton in France.

We need to have an orderly program for legal immigration from south of the border. The Hispanics have no more desire to be insular than the Italians, Polish, Chinese, or any other group that came over here and established their own enclaves. I think any tendency to do so is the result of their "advocates" encouraging and enabling them to be separate. We need to do several things:

- We need English as the official language. This is not to say that you can't have Polish signs in Polish neighborhoods, but if you want to deal with the government, it should be in English. Same goes for education. We have to stop enabling language divisions.

- We need a immigration program specifically for North America. There is clearly a demand for these workers. They need to be screened and then allowed in legally. This is as much for their protection as it is for ours. If OBL ever manages to sneak a bomb in from south of the border, the repercussions for Hispanics on the street will be swift and terrible.

- We need to crack down hard on illegal immigration. Every country in the world enforces their borders. The only amnesty I would support would be if they notified us of their presence and went back home immediately. I would then allow them to apply for legal entry. Illegal immigration make a mockery of our laws and fools out of those who follow them. I don't think a fence is at all unreasonable.

My $0.02 worth.
