Bill Clinton: Immigration Crackdown Hurting U.S.
NewsMax.com ^ | Nov. 8, 2005 | Carl Limbacher

Posted on 11/08/2005 7:14:36 AM PST by Carl/NewsMax

Ex-president Bill Clinton is arguing that tighter immigration laws are hurting America, saying the new restrictions aren't worth it even if they stop the "one out of a zillion [foreigners] who might have a bomb."

"I'm very worried that one of the consequences of our tightness on immigration and visas as a result of 9/11 and terror, has led to a drop in many places of the number of foreign students coming to the United States to study and be graduate students," Clinton told an audience at the University of Minnesota on Saturday.

He said the U.S. needed foreign students because "we are nowhere near graduating enough scientists and engineers to maintain, given the size of our economy, a leadership role in the global economy."

Clinton said the terror trade-off wasn't worth it.

"When we got real tough on visas - because one out of a zillion of them might have a bomb - we lost a lot of brains. We might have dodged a bomb but we lost a lot of brains."

On another subject, the former president also praised actress Geena Davis, star of the new ABC Show "Commander in Chief."

"I did see one episode of 'Commander in Chief'," Clinton told the crowd. "Geena Davis is good for two reasons. She looked tough but not macho. She didn't look lion-tough. And she spoke Spanish. So I thought those two things were good."

*What he really meant was this:

Ex-president Bill Clinton is arguing that tighter immigration laws are hurting Democratic party voter registration numbers*

This is the winner in my eyes. No one wants to touch the elephant under the bed: the dims know illegal immigration = plenty of new dim voters. It is the gift that keeps on giving for them, and will remain as long as it is child's play to register to vote.

What a buffoon. This guy never had any brains. God must really hate America for allowing this swine to become president.

He must be concerned because his Chinese buddies can't enter the US as easily as they did when he was in office. Maybe they ought to try coming in the southern border, no problem there.

What an unadulterated idiot this man is.

Mr. Clinton, shut up, and go away. Please.

I do not care about foreign students. As we all recall, the very same foreign students took part i 9-11 itself, you stupid $#^$. OUR students come first, or should. We all know you owe all those nifty college adminstrators who took student's fees and donated to your pockets. Just shut up.

Stopping ONE BOMB is worth everything. Of course, we don't know enough about who may be in our country, and with what, thanks to you and the efforts of people YOU brought in, like Berger,Gorelick, et al. You lost your ability to criticize ANYTHING to do with 9-11 and it's aftermath. Just shut up.

I truly hope you burn in the depths of hell, Mr. Clinton. I've never wished that on anyone, until you and Saddam came along.

What immigration crackdown?!??

What Rush has been saying about the recent behavior of conservative republicans but in reverse: "Not a crackdown, a crackup."

How is it that Carter and Clinton can't keep their ex-president mouths shut? Aren't they supposed to defer their contradictions while another President is in the White House? I hope that Americans get to hear what this former protector of American ideals says about our safety post 9/11. It is very much his fault why we suffered the tragedy of 9/11 in the first place.

touting hillary as the savior on immigration

LOL! Clinton always touts the party line while making it seem like its a logical position. Since when do the Democraps care about the "enginnering requirements" of the country?. Theyre against drilling for oil, but they want to put wage pressure on homegrown engineers thru cheap import labor? At the same time as theyre against free trade agreemeents and Wal Mart ??

Him and his wife are such opportunistic sh!ts. Incredible...and no one in the media points this out, of course.

We can thank Ross Perot for this numbnut being POTUS.

This "idiot ass-clown" never seems to shut his hole...maybe we should give him a few Carolina Panthers Cheerleaders to keep him busy for a while...so he can do what he does best and let the adults comment, and make, policy.

there has been a tradition of the past president not commenting on the successor administration and its policies.
i guess someone who had no problem renting out the lincoln bedroom and denegrating the presidential offices has absolutely no problem breaking with decades of tradition.
