Flowers in France (American Cemeteries)
Daussalt Falcon ^ | 2004 | Bettina Chervanne

The story of how a grassroots effort to mark the graves of the American war dead in France, called "The French Will Never Forget," became a statement of support and solidarity in politically volatile times.

Far be it for me to defend the French - but to be fair to all the French - I had to post this. Not all of them have forgotten that we have stood by them in the past.

Perhaps there are some of the French worth defending. I'm skeptical though...

I remember some of the French defending Americans after 9/11 when we were discussing going to Afghanistan. They had not forgotten WWI & WWII.

It would be nice to think they hadn't all forgotten...

It's what keeps being driven home to me - every time I lump a group together and think they are all bad, good ones show up!

I know. In general I think of them as a dispicable people. But this piece told me I was painting with a broad brush.

Unfortunately, I cannot just implicitly trust pro-American French articles. I'm sure it's true that many French do not support their government's policies, but the cynical side of me wonders where these articles were before France was on the brink of holy war in their own streets.

Perhaps there are some of the French worth defending.

There are millions of French worth defending.

Their gov't is awful, but so are many in our government- read dimocRATS).Their solution to the Islamist terrorists riots is to appease - just like our dims.

Their big circulation papers are similiar to ours- lefty, liberal, socialist, liars. They print only what they want to print just like the slimes - how far down a story does one have to read before we learn that "disenfranchised, disaffected" Muslim yoots are doing all the rioting. Sounds just like our urban yoots who revel in destruction and chaos, and it's all the fault of the government.

Prayers up for the French citizenry who love their country, and don't want to end up as a Muslim occupied country because their government is a bunch of appeasing traitors.

Actually this piece was written in 2004. I found it while looking for info on the American cemeteries in France. A question on the security of them had come up in reference to the rioting in France.

As concerned I am about what is going on in France, I agree.

remember these folk are probably from Normandy, where true pro america pro business pro freedom loving people still understand the sacrifices made by brits, aussies, canadians, pols, americans, etc. I believe these people will again be liberated from the yoke of their oppressors.

Thanks for posting this. My uncle is buried in one of those cemeteries. I'm glad some people over there remember.

Then it was worth posting if it gave you some small comfort.
