The opposing forces in Guatemala are indigenous Indians, who were subjected to government backed death squads who killed indescriminately, and Jehovah Witnessers, who have usupted the Catholic religion and the government, and tried to convert Indians into polyester-wearing drones.
Drugs play a huge role nowadays, even without as much of the ethnic slaughter of past decades. A lot of the expensive skyline (offices and residences) in Guatemala City is owned by drug lords. The Federales are camped out everywhere, supermarkets with machine-gun mounted jeeps parked outside, etc. Spills over into the countryside where people still get away with hell.
