You can't be a journalist working for a news organization and sell t-shirts about the story you are working on for that employer/news organization. For example, do you think it would be OK for the CBS White House reporter to be out on Sat and Sun set up in front of the White House in Lafayette Park selling "George Bush is an Idiot and Nazi" t-shirts at a booth? ... I don't think so, regardless of the economic issue, its a conflict of interest and unethical and journalistically uncredible.
