Hollywood, you are stepping right into a big pile of it with this one. I remember watching a preview of this crap a few weeks ago at a theater. My wife was embarrassed because I verbalized my displeasure in a rather loud manner. It was more than I could bare. And I'm a polite mid-westerner transplanted to Florida.

The western red stater's will be justifiably outraged at the usurpation and degradation of a proud American icon. This garbage will not make money and it will engender a backlash.

I had heard of this movie and thought perhaps is was a suggestive movie about two repressed "Gay" Cowboys. Now after reading Drudge and other comments why am I not surprised by the graphic nature of this film and subject matter.
Hollywood and the idiot Liberals running it have and are doing everything they can to utterly destroy all of our Icons and things to believe in. If isn't trashing God it's now doing it's best to destroy what most of us consider authentic American Heroes. Lord I grew up watching John Wayne, Joel MCCrea, etc., how I am glad now of these people are alive to see this travesty.
Also for the Fall film releases I have yet to see one picture I wanted to go and see, everything just was "Crap" and I have seen the XMAS release schedule and except for about two maybe three movies all of it is Crap.
Hollywood not only has no imagination and creativity left it has absolutely abandoned decency not mention the adult market. And they wonder why revenues are down and will continue to do so.

Maybe we need to re-think what the Lone Ranger and Tonto were really doing on those Cold lonely mountain range nights!~

Lone Ranger: Tonto, we're surrounded by Indians!

Tonto: What do you mean "we", white man!

it gives the liberal-leaning Academy a great chance to stick its thumb in conservatives' eyes

And gives Red State America another reason to stay home from the movies.

Well I had asked thte question what era this movie was set in and here it is from IMDB "A raw, powerful story of two young men, a Wyoming ranch hand and a rodeo cowboy, who meet in the summer of 1963 sheepherding in the harsh..."
So we aren't talking about the Old West but the Modern West of 1963.
I am sure many of you remember Clark Gable's last film, the title was "The Misfits", this might be a better title for this film.

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS critic Jack Mathews predicts the gay cowboy movie, which takes place in Wyoming, may be "too much for red-state audiences, but it gives the liberal-leaning Academy a great chance to stick its thumb in conservatives' eyes."

As if "American Beauty" and thousands of other Hollywood-produced flicks weren't intended to stick their thumbs into the eyes of conservatives.

When people criticise the FCC for "censoring" some material on radio and broadcast television, it is precisely because of blue-state liberals in Hollywood and NYC *intent* on wiggling their dicks in red-state faces. They want to poison your children. They want to indoctrinate them in their ruinous value system every bit as much as the old-style communists wanted to.

Their fellow blue staters will salute them and give them awards just like do for Dan Rather, Bill Clinton and Mary Mapes. Why? Because they are fellow soldiers in the war to steal our children.

When the Academy gives this film "best picture", it is because they hate you. Never forget that. Listen to these top-name directors when they ask if they would want *their* children to see the trash they make for other people's children. Heck, no, they say. But they make their swill because they are but soldiers in the battle for your kids. You are a fool if you give them money to help them accomplish their goals.

Yeah, but a movie about two cheerleaders having sex in a Tampa bar bathroom stall would receive rave reviews by most male freepers. ;)

Cowboys ain't easy to love and they're harder to hold
They'd rather give you a song than diamonds or gold
Lonestar belt buckles and old faded levis
And each night begins a new day
If you don't understand him, and he don't die young
He'll probably just ride away

Chorus:
Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
Don't let 'em pick guitars or drive them old trucks
Let 'em be doctors and lawyers and such
Mamas don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys
'Cause they'll never stay home and they're always alone
Even with someone they love

Let's see: the movie's based on a short story by lesbian author Annie Proulx. It's set in Wyoming, get it? Wyoming/gays/Matthew Shepard. I just Googled the title and ended up at a gay website where the story was reviewed. The Shepard angle sure wasn't lost on the reviewer.

The Republicans have to use this movie to (again) define Hollywood for the toilet that it is and at the same time reinforce the conventional wisdom that Hollywood IS the Democrat Party and the Democrat Party IS Hollywood.

I haven't seen the movie, and may not, since I suspect Hollywood has tarted it up and used it as a vehicle to say "up yours" to the red states. However, I read the original short story that it is taken from (in The New Yorker magazine) and I have to say it was an excellent short story. Very well written, not sentimental, an interesting portrait of two friends who got too friendly and how it affected the rest of their lives. I suspect the movie does not live up to it.
