OK Evac halted. EOD has temp housing barricaded off and they say everyone on the opposite side of base should be OK. Will post update as I hear.

Yeah, but to evacuate a whole base because of one bomb...something is really strange here.

Plus people go out on impact ranges and bring them home to show off to people.

McChord AFB, Washington
Recent history has seen the demise of many Air Force installations worldwide, as part of the effort to reduce defense spending. McChord, however, goes on. Its association with the 62d Airlift Wing, and its proximity to Alaska and the rest of the Pacific theater, make it a vital part of our nation's defense. Its importance is highlighted and evidenced by its selection as one of two Air Mobility Command installations where the Air Force's newest airlifter, the C-17 Globemaster III, is based. The 62d's aging fleet of C-141's began to make its way to Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona in 1999, when the 62d began conversion to the C-17 Globemaster III began.
Shows they only have the 62d Airlift Wing there. No nukes or bombers that carry such...
Strange they would be evacuating it and calling in EOD...

A possible Broken Arrow! The EOD and Disaster Preparedness Teams would respond and everyone else would clear the area!
McChord is a Combat Airlift base equipped with C-17s. If one of those puppies was carrying Nuculair,(Wubya pronounaciation), weapons then the report would have legs

Yeah. I just visited her up there a few months back. She has not been deployed to the mideast, yet. She says the evac was halted and barracades put up around the temp housing and everyone allowed to return to barracks on the other side of the base.

A Broken Arrow is highly unlikely.

About 1978 they found a 240mm shell in the Air Force housing area at Fort Bragg. The 18th EOD attempted to disarm it by a remote procedure, they had an oops and took out about three or four houses, fortunately no one was hurt. Sometimes these Render Safe Procedures just don't work very well.

Hi everyone this is MGBGUNs daughter...I am an intelligence analyst at McChord AFB. I am not sure what EXACTLEY is going on. I am here on base in the dorms and so far we are safe. Word is that we will know more later. EOD was over at billeting (temp housing) Could be anything from terrorist threats to some punk teenager trying to get kicks. but i will try to keep you posted. God Bless & so far we are safe. I am calling Security Forces to find out any information. Be back shortly.....

A drill would be just fine with me! But you know a word gets around pretty quick when it's a drill. Or it did 20 years ago. I'll post as I hear from her.
