WHEN will we stop calling it the IRAQ WAR?
We are not at war with IRAQ, we are helping an ally build up its armed forces and fight of terrorists.

Because that's the shorthand for it. I hear you about your point and agree with you, but its how they've shorthanded the war in commonspeak. I always call it Operation Iraqi Freedom - but that's too long for a FR title with the other words I used.

Right there with you on this one. It is very frustrating to receive - from the RNC!! - surveys asking us to rank the importance of various topics (e.g., economy, Social (in)Security) and to have the war on terrorism and the Iraq war listed as separate items.

I call it the Iraq campaign because that is what it is. A campaign as part of a larger war.
The Iraq campaign is no different than the Normandy campaign or Guadalcanal campaign or North African campaign, etc. in WWII.
This campaign is in conjunction with the Afghanistan campaign, they are NOT two separate wars but are two different campaigns in the WAR against radical Islam.
