FRANKLIN, Tenn. Mindy McCready (search) says she still loves the man charged with nearly beating her to death earlier this year, and her two suicide attempts were the result of their troubled relationship.
"I wanted him to be sorry," McCready said Thursday about her boyfriend, William McKnight (search), on Oprah Winfrey's talk show.
McKnight was charged with attempted murder in May after he allegedly broke into the singer's home and assaulted her.
McCready, 29, had a No. 1 hit in 1996 with "Guys Do It All the Time," but has suffered a series of legal and personal problems in the last year.
During the interview, McCready described the attack

I only wish there had been audio with it - my favorite part is how girly he looks when he closes his eyes for the hair spray........
"Momma always said 'Stupid is as stupid does'."
Do you really want to hear him wince with pain when the hair spray gets in his eyes? lol

lol
Wouldn't it have been nice if Oprah had asked Ms. McCready if she was stuck on stupid?
And vice-versa.
Late getting back to this thread but wanted to say that Oprah was visibly horrified during most of this show.
At one point she told Mindy that she was messed up. She repeated it a few times like "Do you realize that you are messed up (think this is the phrase she used). I mean, you are really messed up..seriously, do you realize it?". Honestly, I thought that Mindy would take offense since the way that Oprah was saying it was really accusing.
Really, during the entire show Oprah called her on her denial, lying and her general bad behavior. She definitely did not give her a forum to chat about good stuff..all that I saw was concerning her abusive relationship. Very sad!
Even after the show, is was obvious that Mindy was probably going to continue the relationship if possible. She had just seen him a few days/weeks beforehand. She wouldn't say since he is not supposed to be within XX feet of her due to the court case. She spent a big part of the show lying/justifying her/his behavior and the other part crying when she realized that Oprah wasn't buying it.
It's "a liberal thing." Belief in the ability to change hearts using reason.
Oprah has mounted quite an attack on child molesters recently and I can't imagine her allowing an abuser to be praised, glad to know she didn't.
