Which is, indeed, "I don't think there is a link between Islam and violence."
But it is also "I don't think there is a link between Islam and the violence."
If she meant the former, she would be a loon.
If she meant the latter, which is what I took her to meaning, she was referring to the immediate events in France, and I agree with her assessment.

What is your basis for saying that what is happening in France now has nothing to do with Islam?
