From the sound of it, I don't think there is any "danger" of the French defending themselves, let alone using deadly force. The poor police chief caught flack for arresting only a few over a hundred and calling, rightly, the rioters "scum". No wonder the French only lasted 2 weeks when Hitler attacked.
Like the old addage goes....hey I'm no fighter, I'm a lover.
But lest we forget, there where many a brave fighting French resistance, who where ready and did die to take back their land from that horrible monster. Obviously they needed a little bit of help. And we do have to admit French reconstituted army did fight under the 1st and 3rd Armies, once things where put into play. So we can't say they didn't try.
