Rep. Tom DeLay (R-TX) "filed a report with the Clerk of the House of Representatives indicating he received free travel valued at $13,998.55 from Fox News Sunday for 'officially connected travel' on October 1-2, 2005, from Sugarland, TX to Washington, D.C. and back to Sugarland, TX. Rep. DeLay appeared on Fox News Sunday on October 2, 2005, the weekend after his indictment on September 28, 2005."

This story gives a glimpse into the unreal world our politicians live in. We ain't go no elected representatives anymore, we got media celebrity whores. These are the kind of expenses Hollywood celebrities like George Clooney would expect. The MSM and our elected representatives have a symbiotic relationship in which they need each other very badly. These boys and girls who we send to Washington are swimming in lobbyist money and spending every dime the government collects and borrowing like crazy to spend more. Although I believe Delay is victim of an unjust political prosecution, he seems to have spent more time raising money to get people elected than he has spent time effecting the principles to which he and his party pledged to promote.
A couple of months ago, I sat across from Fed Chairman Greenspan on first-class on a flight from Chicago to DC. Of the eight first-class seats, his entourage had six. I know them because I used to work there. How much did this flight cost? Was it a "scandal"? No, because it wasn't a Republican.
We always upgrade using miles for flights over 3 hours.
Last summer we were going to Vegas.
The best seats on a plane are Row 1 seats A-B-E-F. We were excited as we knew we had seats 1E and 1F.
When we got to the airport and checked in, we found our seats had been changed to row 2.
When I inquired as to why, I was told a handicapped passenger needed the 1st row seating. That was fine with me, and I totally understood.....
Until I boarded the plane...
Who was the person that took both seats 1E 1F?
None other than Charlie Rangel!!!!
That is when I started boiling...
But such is life when you are not a rock star or a Congressman! LOL
Row 2 is better in domestic First Class because you have much, much more legroom! The airline did you a favour and stuck Charlie in row 1. Count your blessings.
1EF is bulkhead and has enough room to stand up and pass by the aisle seat(e) without the person having to get up.
On a 757-200 Continental plane that is the best seat in the house next to 1 A or B. In row 2 there is no more leg room than any other first class seat.
Fourteen thousand dollars? What'd he do - charter a jet full of hookers?
After his moronic comments about how there's no fat left to cut in his Big Stupid Government, I really don't care a whit what happens to DeLay. Just another big-spending politician.
Lets see... a senator and a few staff in first class, and a couple nights for them in a DC hotel... with expenses...
Yah? So what?
Yeah, right.
It's fun watching Republican Party toadies tie themselves in knots trying to justify these crooks.
So anyway - what's your favorite flavor?
I travel pretty cheap and I can blow a couple thousand a week easy, all alone. With staff it gets pricier. I'm not even a senator.
For a politician? Not worth it.
Sleeper troll, are you?
What's yer problem? I don't see any public money being spent here... it's a private company paying for all of it.
If they have a problem with it... that's one thing. If they pay it willingly... then its not really an issue, is it?
It's another "public servant" on the grift. And no, I'm not surprised.
Grift? Well... however you choose to see it. Doesn't look out of line to me, depending on specifics. But if you choose to take the MSM word for it... so be it.
Oh, nevermind. I get it.
You're just cranky. My mistake. I thought this was a discussion of some issue. Silly me.
$13K is not bad. Last minute first class, plus a good hotel room (more likely suite) and he probably gets paid a fee to show up, too. This number sounds in line with norms. If he brought staff, then it is entirely explained.
Also, he may have needed to get a legal opinion on making the appearance and billed that, too.
And that makes it right how again? I am sick and tired of the Republican argument being 'well the other side would do it too'. Conservatives should strive to hold themselves to a higher standard. Of course there are few conservatives in the Republican party so this is about what I'd expect.
