Not an accurate perception. Poland is a better model.
Except the clergy in Poland is Catholic. The clergy in Mexico are Marxist stooges for the most part. (Although that is grossly unfair to several Godly men.) Catholics in Poland who choose to identify themselves as Catholic know what it means to be Catholic. A third no longer identify themselves as Catholic, and maybe a third are disaffected, but there are millions who know their faith and live by it devoutly.
Catholicism in Mexico, on the other hand, is largely a superstition clung to desperate, elderly, poor people. There is no morality in its teachings, just communitarianism and class resentment.
