yes the delay is a big deal because the Supreme Court hears an abortion case in late November. And we need another conservative on the court by then to make sure things go our way Right..But I do think it's would be hard to do such a thing in less than 4 weeks (mostly blaming it on the delay due to Meiers thing).

Can you or anyone answer this question?...

I'm wondering if,

a) The justices that hear the case in court make their votes right after court date (ie. so O'Conner would have a vote in the decision)?

---OR instead---

b)The votes are made at the end of the "SC judicial season" (in the spring), where in that case the court transcript would be available for Alito to have a vote in the decision (not O'Conner)?

IF Frist had any stones, committee hearings would be 11/28-12/2 and no one goes home for Christmas unless there's a vote on the floor of the Senate.

Not a lick of testicular fortitude...Republican Senate Leadership is an oxymoron.

Good thinking!Never thought of that angle......They are so sure that all these lies they are saying about our president will install Hillary in the White House in 2008, I would not put anything past these jerks! I still think that stunt that Reid pulled the other day (closing the Senate) was the beginning of the delay tactics! Watch for more of those temper tantrums to stall, stall, stall!

Apparently senate confirmations are backed up and the nearest slot they can fit him in is Jan. 9th.

What a bunch of bung. And we are paying these people?

Hillary of course is planning to pack the Supreme Court with ACLU- Ginsberg type judges so all her Socialist agendas will go through. We can't let that happen!

The point being that in 2006, given that we hold the Senate, he can expect to be turned into a back bencher in payment for his services rendered.

Honestly, this all accrues to Trent Lott. He is manuevering to blast Frist out of his spot, and Frist needs to understand, where his bread is buttered. That is mastering the Senate and getting renegades like Specter to shape up. Otherwise the push will be to replace him.

This often has Trent Lott in position of celebrating our woes.

Trent would be better to let go of his sour grapes, and push hard for our success. If Frist falls, let that be of his own making. Specter more than any other Senator will be Frist's undoing.

O'Conner wants to be voting when the two abortion cases and the queer marriage case are ripe. As soon as Miers withdrew, that made it pretty much a done deal.

She's not going to make any comments about this being too late.

This scheduling is completely up to Specter - that's why you know it won't happen.

Specter was in favor of the Miers nomination.

He will see no cause to put Alito on the fast track.

I won't be surprised to see him vote against Alito.

There are two abortion case, and a queer marriage case coming up that O'Conner will now be voting on and will certainly be the "swing" vote for, but Miers would probably have been doing the voting if she hadn't been forced to "withdraw"

There is one and only one person who controls this schedule:
Specter.

Go ahead and call him.
Won't matter.
He wanted Miers and sees no reason to put Alito on the same "fast track" and nothing can change this decision of his except him.

Go ahead and have the conservatives in PA vote against him in retribution if you like - you'll then have a solid deep-blue Demodog in that PA seat for twenty plus years - someone who will ALWAYS vote against any conservative agenda, instead of only part of the time - someone like Kennedy. Great concept. That person won't ever be able to be dislodged by any conservative - ever.

The "Blue State" Republicans are not conservatives, and they never will be. You either get the vote of a RINO sometimes, or you get the NO of a Demodog always. Nothing the RNC or the "conservatives" hereabouts can change that.

This isn't Kansas. Much of the country isn't.

"Republican Sens. Mike DeWine of Ohio, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, and Olympia Snowe of Maine have said they don't see Alito triggering the "extraordinary circumstances" standard..."
---->

Ah HA! and Thanks!

Remember way back in May we had strong speculation that Snowe had given Graham assurances that she would stick with him on the nuke if the Dems went back on the MoU? It sounds very accurate now.

Let's see, Miers was nominated Oct. 3 and they were figuring to start hearings Nov. 7. She needed only 35 days, or so they thought. Roberts was nominated Jul. 20, hearings set for Sep. 6. He needed 48 days. Alito is nominated Oct. 31 and he won't get a hearing until Jan. 7---68 days. Would that be because he needs so much more preparation than Roberts, and twice as much as Miers did?

Since they were already planning to start hearings on Nov 7th for the Supreme Court nominee (Miers), why can't they just jump into the confirmation hearings with the successor nominee (Alito) on Monday? Unless Alito doesn't want to go so soon, I see no real reason the Senate should delay, since they should have already been prepared to ask whatever questions they wanted to ask of Miers. And, since the hearings usually take many days, the Senators' staff can continue to prepare more questions as the hearings progress. Thanksgiving is still three weeks away.

This is a delaying tactic so the momentum of Libby, DeLay, and other BS can help derail Alito. They need more Borking time.

The Senate is a total disgrace.

Arlen Specter (RAT in makeup--PA) is anti-American. Kick him out of the Republican Party. Just think, President Bush and Senator Santorum gave Specter a free pass for another six years--we SHOULD have Pat Toomey in Washington. I will never forgive Santorum or Bush for this.

We knew that when we raised holy h*** about him becoming chairman of the judiciary committee. Not that anyone listened to the ruckus we made.

Does this truly surprise anyone?

The existence of Santorum proves that you do not have to be as liberal as Spectre to be elected in PA. Therefore, there was no excuse for W not to at least stay neutral in that primary campaign.

I can understand leaving a RINO like Chafee alone as long as he votes with us in caucus. Aren't going to be able to elect anyone more conservative than him there anyway. Ditto for Maine.

But there is no excuse for Spectre, just as there is no excuse for the Ohio GOP Senators or John McCain.

I see...So your sayin' we need a tough Lucca Brasci (tryin to keep with the Godfather theme here) Joking aside, I understand. So basically, the crux of our problem can very indirectly be traced back to the big MSM tantrum about what Sen. Trent Lott said regarding Sen. Strom on his 100th B-day (while the real KKK Sen. Byrd was not mentioned). If I recall history correctly, Bush contibuted to the concensus for Lott to step aside as majority leader.

The lesson to be learned: React defensively to passify MSM, and it will bite you in the a$$ somewhere sometime somehow later on!
