Someone on another thread put forward the notion that the rioters are not Islamic militants, but simply unemployed and underemployed kids raising a ruckus for heck of it.
Oh, I have not doubt that most of the rioters are unemployed or underemployed teenagers and early twenty somethings. Many of them are probably doing it just for fun or because they saw their friends and family doing it. Many of them are doing it because they believe the truly bullsh** they are being fed. The same thing happens in Northern Ireland.
However, that doesn't mean that Islamic militants aren't there, pulling their strings and organizing everything.
