Socialist is not synonymous with pacifist.
Fifty million Chinese dead at the hand of Mao; thirty million Soviets killed in the name of Stalinism; plus millions of: Cubans, Cambodians, Vietnamese, Nicaraguans, etc. etc. etc. -- all killed in the name of socialism.
