(AGI) - Novara, Italy, Oct 29 - With the emission of 42 remand orders in jail, the Novara financial police have broken a criminal Albanian organisation involved in trafficking drugs and seized over 58 kilos of cocaine, two guns, 18,000 euro and 19 cars. Another 11 people have been caught in the act and arrested around various Italian towns.
The enquiry began in 2003 and has involved 14 Italian provinces as well as Belgium, Holland, Germany and Albania. It started when the Novara financial police became suspicious of the behaviour of a 34-year-old Albanian, who was immediately identified as the head of an organisation which got supplies if large quantities of cocaine from Holland to then sell it, through various Albanian and Rumanian traffickers, mostly in Lombardy, Piedmont, Tuscany and along the Romagnola Riviera.
Further details about the police operation, called Astor, will be given in a press conference at 10.45 today by the provincial head of the Brescia financial police. Also present will be the chief prosecutor, Giancarlo Tarquini, who co-ordinated the enquiry. (AGI)
