Corzine's ex-wife claims he's 'compromised his ideals'
The (Don't Say Newark) Star Ledger ^ | 11/2/05 | Jeff Whelan and Josh Morgolin

U.S. Sen. Jon Corzine's ex-wife said yesterday he "compromised his ideals" to get elected by cutting deals with political bosses, and that his pursuit of power "destroyed" their family.

Joanne Corzine said she was reluctantly breaking her silence because her ex-husband is giving an inaccurate portrayal of himself in his campaign for governor.

She said that when she campaigned by his side five years ago, she urged him not to get involved with Democratic political bosses, but he contributed millions of dollars to them to "buy their loyalty."

"It changed him. I think once you go down that road of making deals, compromising your ideals to get somewhere, it's easier to do it the next time," she told The Star-Ledger in an interview.

Read the rest. Good stuff from the woman who knows Jon Corzine best. Corzine leads amongst women in New Jersey 60/40. Go figure.

Similar stuff from the New York Times here

He began cheating with lil ole Karla while he was married. Gave his wife a diamond bracelet that she returned to him. (foolish woman) and he gave it to his girlfriend.

Married man with two sons, one still in high school. No wonder slick willie thinks Corslime is his kind of guy.

You have to have ideals first to get them compromised.

I heard that Joanne returned the $100,000 Cartier diamond bracelet after she saw a picture of Carla Katz wearing an identical bracelet a few weeks after she received hers. I guess Jonnie-boy gets a volume discount!

Corzine is a political whore. If New Jersey is stupid enough to vote for this Bearded, Scumbag, puppy-eating, union porking, sack of Helen Thomas used underpants they deserve him. Just get the load out of the Senate. Then he's Jersey's problem.

Wow. They say revenge is best served cold.

That said, she divorced him for a reason. She has every right to tell people why.

This story and the Cindy Adams revelations in the New York Post have given some momentum to the Forrester campaign for Governor. Although the Quinnipiac poll has Corzine up by 12 the Fairleigh Dickinson University Poll has him up by only 4, putting Forrester within striking distance. Interestingly, the Qunnipiac poll has Corzine ahead by 4 pts with independent voters with Democrats and Republicans supporting their parties candidates by 82% each.In non presidential years the voter turnout is nearly the same for both parties putting the Republicans in better position. Republicans tend to vote in greater percentages than Democrats in off year elections. So the balance of power lies with the independents. This bad publicity can only hurt Corzine. I am keeping my fingers crossed that New Jersey will surprise the nation by going Republican.

"It changed him. I think once you go down that road of making deals, compromising your ideals to get somewhere, it's easier to do it the next time,"

Unfortunately, this is not just a problem for Corzine or Democrats... we see Republicans fall into the same trap.

I have been active in local politics and considered running for office but I see this happening at all levels and don't really want to find myself in the same position.

Even if you were only a local county supervisor, you would have the local congressman telling you to support particular things that you might feel are contrary to the good of your constituents, but if you oppose that measure, you can plan on losing your seat on the next election because he will not only refuse to support you, he will fund your opposition.

Both parties have stated ideals, and then what they do... which are not the same thing.

not foolish at all. Besides...instead of a diamond bracelet...I'd rather go to a neat store like Hobby Lobby and spend that kind of money there on things for my home and family and things I can try to make. No diamonds for me except my little engagement ring which is all the diamond I ever needed. :) But...that's just me. :)

Well, keep your fingers crossed all you want. They could have John Corzine on video having sex with a chimp, screaming the "n" word repeatedly, smoking pot, snorting coke and writing a check to Osama Bin Laden and the good folks in NJ would STILL vote for him. But hey, sometimes you get the government you deserve.

hey - I don't deserve Corzine. I don't deserve Forrester either. I have a choice between a man with bad principles and a man with no principles, between a man who plans to drive straight to hell and a man who is going to muddle around and get shoved there. I don't even have a third party candidate on the ballot worth voting for.

Well, you could always vote with your feet and just get the hell out of Joisey. I am stuck here, BUT, I put in a request with my company to be transferred the hell out asap. I want to go to Red State land and live a rational life, away from this Bravo Sierra.

we hope to move also within the next few years. Not so easy for my husband to find a job in his field in the red states though. I am trying to guide my children to choose a career they can do anywhere.

The same thing happened a few years ago in Philly. The Corrupt Democrat (but I repeat myself). Mayor John Street was being investigated by the Feds, and they played it like the evil Bush administration was picking on a "Brotha". He was re-elected in a landslide. Philly can have him. It's just a pitty that the rest of the state is stuck with Governor Cheesesteak.

And hence why I exited Philly, stage right. As for Gov. Cheesesteak, I think it may soon be his Swan song.

unfortunately that is how they play politics....I can't stand career politicians...they no longer have a political/ideological compass. Every deal they made is done out of political expediency and power.

Corzine and Forrester aren't career politicians. They're rich guys who went into politics. Christie Whitman wasn't a career politican - she was a rich lady with a long interest in politics.

I think Corzine really does have a compass - he wants to bring about a brave new liberal world and live forever. Technology is his god. Here is a midwestern Italian farmboy, presumably a Catholic to start with, who has remodelled himself into the very image of a atheistic Jewish professor, an intellectual icon. He's remade himself and he wants to remake the rest of us because he's so much smarter. He chose politics rather than the university because he wants to wield power directly. He is a clever man, and a dangerous one.
