A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Florida and THE SOUTH have surely had their share of torment and problems as a result of Mother Nature the past couple years. Our resident satirist, JohnHuang2, who resides in Southern Florida has NOT missed the bullet and following Wilmas visit, is awaiting power & ability to contribute with us again.
Needing a replacement for this Thursday, the Sistahs wisely went to the deepest political thinker on the FRee Republic Forum, DollyCali (cough, cough, choke, choke
as a nose somewhere is growing)
Lets see, shall we analyze Meirs withdrawal? Reids most recent rants? The Scooter indictment? Charles & Camilla's visit to US? Alitos selection for SCOTUS? POTUS trip to Asia? The 2000th death in Iraq? The de-throwning of Anne Coulter? The Condi 08 movement?
?????
Naw, lets consider something REALLY important.
A baby squirrel.
Yes, this will be a hot bed of political discussion. Should survival of the fittest been permitted to happen? Will this woman, Debbie, be a wildlife law breaker and be charged with various violations of local statues? Will the libertarians have an opportunity to demand local ordinances as these be eliminated? Will Michael Moore make this into a movie? Who will play the baby squirrel? Who will play the wicked squirrel mother, who threw the squirrel out of the nest? Will the cancer ridden rescuer have her last days with cancer in jail? Will Hospice be permitted to visit? Will the dog breeders of America shout BAD WOMAN!? Will the baby squirrel now need therapy to realize he is NOT a dog? Will the dog pups no longer follow their nature & not chase squirrels? Will the Papillon Association of America with draw Giselles pedigree?
But the key question:
Will peace activists tell us that this is a lesson for the US & terrorists
Cant we all just get along????
Well, wonder if any of us has any clue what will be the fate of Finnegan? Will he be content to play with the dogs? Will his inner instinct drive him to his own kind? Will he look for a mate in the dog world (pleasing the libs)? Will he work for the Park Service?
Or will his aspirations be a bit higher? Well, here is an idea
.

I read your links posted on yesterday's thread, Rus, to your piece in the paper. You are so dedicated to stay in there and fight against all the corruption in your area, in spite of the setbacks and the difficulties you've had. God knows it hasn't been easy; Freepers know you're no quitter. I wish you the very best November 8th. You deserve it.

It breaks my heart to see all the dogs and cats in the shelters and know that they can't all be saved. If people would only be responsible owners and neuter their pets (unless they're breeders maybe), then there might not be so many throw-aways. :(

LOL! Your dog is so adorable. My dog chases the squirrels too. I feed them along with the birds. I'm thinking the squirrels enjoy it. It seems they stay longer each time my dog comes out. I warn them but they stay anyway until last minute anyway. I don't think my dog would know what to do if she ever got too close. LOL!

Yes, Billie, it is so heartbreaking. It is because of selfish and some very cruel people, the majority of them are there.
My son now volunteers at a local shelter. I was pleased to see at this shelter, they have a lot of volunteers and they take them out and play all the time. Every time I pick up my son, he shows me around. I'm always tempted to bring another dog home. :)

Hi Billie, I didn't know squirrels would eat / ruin pumpkins, till I got some pictures in e-mail today. What I got in my e-mail told the whole story in pictures. I googled for it but the best I could do was the one I posted, but it is cute too.

I thought I would write to you all
and thank you for letting me know about this thread! And in return, I thought I would invite you all to a party.
But be careful, Spike
may have spiked the punch. If you drink too much, you'll start seeing things...
and that would be HORRIBLE!

I have a Grandfather who lives at a assistant living. He loves it. Yes, I think she will be happy there. Even though we went as often as we could to see her when she was at home, she was alone too much of the time. Now she will be able to socialize as little or as much as she likes with other people who are in her same situation.
It is a blessing that she has, on her own, decided that this is what she wants to do. Often it is a struggle to get elderly people to realize that they would be so much better off in a retirement community. Of course, she knows that we will not be abandoning her there. She will see us as often as she did before she fell and broke her hip and wrist. Actually, nothing much will change, except all her meals will be fixed for her and she will have more people around to socialize with. She can even take some of her own furniture and decorate her apartment just like her home was decorated....just on a smaller scale. :-)

"BTW, are you going to see the movie Jarhead? the previews that I saw the other day looked pretty good." This is sure to disappoint you, Dolly, but I am *not* a moviegoer. In Greensboro, NC, for lower tax purposes, we in 1984 had built our house in beautiful, peaceful woods in Randolph County, 9 miles below the Forest Oaks Country Club area.
We were just 2 miles from a divided Super Slab into the city, and a little further on, Moses Cone Hospital where I worked 15 years. (20 miles door to door)
With such very limited time, rising at 0450 to get to work before 0730 - home, with a grocery stop, often being 1830 before reaching home - as a News Junkie, stayed up until the 2300 news and weather...to sleep by 0030 or 0100, usually.
NO TIME to go back into Greensoro and way up/over to any theater; long drive on weekend; exorbitant cost; *lack of real interest* in nearly all - still was not the Primary Reason we have NOT been to a single one since 1986 when we viewed Oliver Stone's disgusting version of The Nam Experience...Platoon.
So incensed by his drug-crazed portrayal of our military, and my husband being there in the THICK OF IT ALL - and the USA public move AGAINST our heroes - the Spitting Party reception by hippies in San Francisco, and was MADE to SIT AT THE BACK OF THE PLANES ascross the country so he "wouldn't UPSET THE CIVILIANS" - - I nearly self-immolated, finally letting the suppressed feelings out.
MAY GOD RICHLY BLESS THE GULF WAR VETS WHO DEMANDED NAM ONES BE HONORED, and finally said, "WELCOME HOME, BROTHERS."...
That brought out the tremendous anger and grief held within me since the year when he was fighting there and I was alone rearing 3 children, very careful in public places with a military decal on my car.
I am too much an American patriot and realist to need any _ _ _ _ from a twisted Hollywood producer/writer/star/whatever the source. They all eventually come to your televion set, especially with the advent of cable; and if we desire, turn movies on there.
One exception was buying for $10 a used DVD of The Passion of The Christ by Mel Gibson. We watched it in our living room, where we wore casual attire, could pause it - got food and drinks - took breaks - and did not have to bother with persons needing to get past you - TALK, distracting you - it all works fine for us!
We have a TV set in the living room, and one to the right of the computer here, both of us able to 24/7 keep up to speed on the important dramas of each day, between the TV and Free Republic..:))
In between, we choose to read a LOT of books...

I love squirrels, I think they are so cute :-) And, when I said that one day to a friend of mine, he was surprised, he said "they are rodents, you are terrified of mice" I have had the pleasure of seeing a 'black squirrel' twice in my life. First one I saw was on L.I., at a friend's house, the second one was in S.C.

There you are!
While I was waiting I was confronted by a hungry squirrel ...
... a drunk squirrel ...
... a man that thought he was a squirrel ...
... and an angry squirrel.
So all in all, it's been an exhausting day.

LOL, I am with you, LadyX. I never go to the movies. I can count on one hand how many times I have been to the movie theatre since 1980. Some of us love to go to the movies, some don't, to each his own. I catch a few movies every now and again on tv. (very few, I prefer watching the cooking shows, sports, sitcoms and the Fox News Channel) I would rather sit around the kitchen table and chat with friends and family as opposed to going to see a movie.
I am going to see a Broadway play this weekend and am looking forward to going to the 'Big City' LOL, this will be the first time seeing a play on Broadway.

Stanley Park, in Vancouver BC, is full of black squirrels! It is the only place I've ever seen them.

When I was at my friend's house and saw the black squirrel, I was shocked, had never seen one before. They said the squirrel is there everyday. Very pretty.

My Grandmother died. My Grandfather didn't want to sell the house and go but he knew he had to. He needs people around 24 hours. He just loves it and he's in his own place. What a wonderful place he lives. He was so depressed without my Grandmother. He always will be. Though, this place has given him everything he needed. Independence, good friends and help when he needs it. He's always busy but on his terms. God Bless your Mom In Law. I hope she has the same experience as my Grandfather. :)
