Ping for Avian Flu Surveillance

It appears our own, home-grown remedies may be the best yet.

Sadly, we're going to be getting warehouses full of a vaccine that will be as effective against a mutated pandemic bird-flu strain — if one ever shows up — as last year's human flu vaccine would be against next year's virus. That is to say, the new vaccine will be barely effective or worthless.

Just not true. This writer has obviously missed out on graduate level immunology, but I did not. There is a terrific possiblity for enough cross immunity to make it worthwhile to try to save some lives if this thing blows.

Especially is they are intelligent enough to do it as the Hungarians did, with a killed virus hopefully generating a polyclonal antibody.

"While the world mobilized all its medical resources to stop the avian flu, snail ebola continues its relentless crawl."
