Many comments on an amusing thread.

(1) Napoleon was French. Corsica is part of France.

(2) This is not Islam reaching out to take control of Paris. Nothing like it. This is frustrated French-born Arabs who are angry about exclusion.

(3) Nobody has gotten killed. 7 nights of street demonstrationsand property damage, but neither the police nor the Beurs have killed anybody. This is a strong protest in the French tradition, and not a murderous event in the Islamist tradition.

(4) The issue is how does France deal with French who are excluded and angry. These young men are not immigrants. They're French. It's akin to the American struggles of what to do about the black riots in the 1960s, except that in America the riots were much more violent and deadly.

They are not French. Many are Islamist and have no allegence to France.
The North African Jews assimilated, despite racism. The North African Muslims have not. Some Beurs assimilate (I have a cousin who is engaged to a Franco-Algerian), but they are not the majority.

Perhaps you missed when the rioters declared the suburbs "their land". BTW, there is mutual shooting going on. This isn't a large manifestation. It is a revolt.

A protest would peter out after a day. Here, there are organized armed gangs (paramilitary units?) that are attacking infrastructure and burning cars. In the 1960's we had the good sense to crush the communists and radicals once violence started. France, where the Arab and Muslim population in 10% and growing, has not.
