AUSTIN, Tex. - In a courtroom victory for Rep. Tom DeLay, the judge in the campaignfinance case against the former House Republican leader was removed yesterday because of his donations to Democratic candidates and causes. The ruling came after a hearing - presided over by a semiretired judge - in which DeLay's attorneys argued that state District Judge Bob Perkins' political donations created the appearance of bias. Perkins, a Democrat, has contributed to candidates such as John Kerry and the liberal advocacy group MoveOn.org.
"The public perception of Judge Perkins' activities shows him to be on opposite sides of the political fence than Tom DeLay," defense attorney Dick DeGuerin argued.
Perkins had declined to withdraw from the case. He could not be reached for comment.
DeLay was forced to step down as House majority leader after being charged with funneling corporate campaign contributions to GOP candidates for the Texas Legislature. Texas law forbids the direct use of corporate money for campaigning.
DeLay denies the charges.

Yeah, that would have been pretty fair. A moveon.org judge for DeLay.
Those folks (moveon.org) should be getting pretty familiar with losing by now. I'm so happy for them.
This is exactly how the justice system is supposed to work.
There should be no recriminations against the judge or Mr. DeLay for use of this provision.
President Bush and his adminstration are following the law, instead of finding a way around it.
The Judge deserves respect for accepting the ruling, as he should.
It is taking time, but at least we are seeing an adminstration that practices what they preach.
Judges have this absurd notion that their judicial impartiality is respected by the public. This is FAR from teh case. Judges are political creatures, their consituency is NOT the public, the consituency of the judges is OTHER LAWYERS.
If the judge wants to move up in rank or to move from state to federal, they are VERY political in legal circles.
This judges refusal was just a symptom of the self delusion permiating the black robe set.
Well, well. The dims bit the dust again.
Finally the Perkins/Earle tag team is broken up. Earle will have a hard time convicting Delay without his favorite judge.
The Hammer's route of Earl has begun. If I was Earl, I'd be worried about becoming some guy's "girlfriend" in prison.

It's been suggested [Opinion Journal, from memory] it would be appropriate if that gang changed its name to "Dwell-on.org."
Given the passage of time, that is, since that gang had its dot.con roots in being a vehicle to assist our coming to terms with and "moving on" from all of the Cli'tons' corruptions, crimes and co-predations.
From which moveon.org simply refuses to move on!
btt
I'd prefer that they not move on. It is so nice to see them writhe.

For me, too. Who'd have otherwise known to recognise pathological hypocrisy as the definitive symptom, almost, of the liberal psychosis.
Shelia Jackson-Lee was on Fox news this morning and as is her trademark, talked incessantly and said nothing. I'm surprised she is still out two days after Halloween.
