The practical consequences of this answer make Western intelligence services shudder: "If anyone, the United States or even Israel, gets the idea to bomb the Iranian nuclear weapons program back 10 years into the past, then God help us," says a Western intelligence officer. "Then the Mullahs will unleash their guard dogs worldwide. They will equip and support all Shi'ite terrorist networks with the Sunni networks globally, that is, with everything that they have. For us it would be the ultimate worst-case scenario, one for which we are not prepared."

And so letting them develop nuclear weapons will stop them
from unleashing the dogs of war??

If these agencies aren't prepared now, then how could they
possibly be prepared for what would come of unfettered
access by Islamic terror groups to the weapons envisioned
by the Iranian Mullahs.

Liberals are only too willing to pay the price of appeasement, because they think it will come out of
someone elses pocket. The lessons of history are lost
on them.

Good grief..with intelligence officer's like this..what are we to do? He/She sounds like a frightened wimp. Wonder if it is Val?

This is not so much a devout Muslim speaking as rather one who knows that he is in possession of the one, the pure truth. The masses follow him.

Great article. Thanks for posting it.

But not to worry. Our President has asked the Congress for a declaration of war against Islamic jihad and we are now on a war footing! Actions are being taken and plans are being laid to protect our country and the western world against the enemy of Islamic fundamentalism.

Oh...wait...that hasn't happened yet, has it?

God help us if we don't stop Iran's nuclear program. Islam is a religion of satanic devils, more evil than anything else on earth. Where Westerners have conscience, Islam has ruthlessness.

If Iran is allowed by the West to build a nuclear arsenal then the West has had it. If we cannot find the courage to take them on now, how will we ever do it once they have nuclear bombs and a delivery system? It is easy to see blackmail in the future, with sharia law and Islamic dominance almost everywhere if we don't find the wherewithal to stop Iran and their fellow barbarians right now.

and what gives anyone the impression that this isn't on their agenda during and after they've made themselves a nuclear weapon? There is only one thing more irresponsible than not having suggestions to solve problems of this magnitude, and that's pretending the problem doesn't exist in the first place.

Being slightly less irresponsible than one’s appeasing counterparts is no bullet point for anyone’s resume... Anyway, thanks for the info, I'll keep all of this in mind while my flag continues to burn in the streets of Tehran.

I think the author is suggesting that the best option for dealing with Iran is not to bomb it, but support the efforts of the pro-democracy movement to overthrow their own regime. A new free Iran would be a friend of the US while bombing Iran is due to produce unintended consequences.

Only one country in has overthrown their own regime without outside help and we need to help the Iranian people now.

The good news is that many in the world are slowly getting that an internal regime change is the best of all possibilities.

...what are we to do?

Check this post out...this states what we are not doing and what we ought to be doing. We are at war but our President has not put us on a war footing...we have not declared war against the real enemy. This post (article) tells us what is going wrong in this global conflict...and what has to change if we are going to win. It is a long post, but a must read. (Post #49)

The problem is he/she is probably right. Except about the ultimate worst-case scenario. Iran with nukes is worse. It would start a full jihad, making the current one look like kindergarteners in a sandbox...

"Islam is a religion of satanic devils. . . "

Actually, if the Government of Iran were overthrown by card-carrying LaVeyan satanists, I would sleep easier.
Compared to the vitriol being spouted by the Mullahs (including the most warlike quotes from the Koran they can find) LaVey's "Thirteen Satanic Principles" sound positively new-age, touchy-feely.

Satanists live for their own pleasure, and don't believe in an afterlife. Their attitude towards their 'fellow animals' (as they would put it) is pretty much a cautious apathy.

The Mullahs, OTOH, believe they're doing God's work. They hate all non-Muslims with zealous fervor. They believe that no matter what they do in the name of Allah to punish "unbelievers" they will be rewarded in Paradise.

Which bunch do you think makes better neighbors?

NEWSFLASH..THE ENEMY IS ALREADY IN A FULL SCALE JIHAD! Don't you read their websites? This is only going to get worse if we do nothing.

"Which bunch do you think makes better neighbors?"

I put Satanists in the same class as Islamic zealots. Both worship evil, both detest Christians and the worship of a God of love and peace. So both make dangerous neighbors. If there were entire nations of Satanists, they would be similar in most ways to Islamic nations.

" Only one country [] has overthrown their own regime without outside help and we need to help the Iranian people now."

"I love to think," he wrote the admiral, "that you will give the first blow to an insolent nation, for I am sure you will appreciate the pleasure of humiliating it and that you know it sufficiently to hate it... May you begin the great work of destruction which will put their nation at the feet of ours. May you do them as much harm as they wish to do us." La Fayette.

If we don't know how freedom was born to us, how can we expect others to achieve it in our midst?

Oh, I agree that they are going to get worse if we do nothing. They are also going to get worse if we do something. All things being equal, I would really prefer we do something; let me be very clear on that. But if you think what we are in now is full scale jihad, you are sadly mistaken. But ultimately, their goal is to drag us into a state of total war with the muslim world. That will be full scale jyhad, and thankfully, we are not quite there yet. But Iran could dangerously up the stakes. They do have chemical and biological weapons. And they would give them to terrorists given half an excuse.

That being said, they cannot be allowed to have nuclear weapons. But let's not fool ourselves. Things are going to get a hell of a lot worse over the next few years, even decades, barring some sort of near-miracle.

Clerics still preaching hatred of West

Richard Kerbaj 03nov05

MUSLIM clerics in Sydney and Melbourne - led by radicals Sheik Mohammed Omran and Sheik Abdul Salam Mohammed Zoud - are still preaching hatred against the West, urging followers in Arabic to resist peace and support insurgents waging war against Australian soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In open defiance of John Howard's proposed new terror laws and the Prime Minister's demand that Muslim leaders desist from inflammatory rhetoric, Lakemba cleric Sheik Zoud has used his Friday prayer meetings over the past month to praise Muslim fighters. "Allah yinsur el-mujaheddin fe-Iraq (God grant victory to the mujaheddin in Iraq)," he repeatedly screamed during a 35-minute Arabic sermon at Lakemba's Haldon Street prayer hall in Sydney's southwest last week.

In further contempt of Mr Howard, Sheik Zoud's high-profile counterpart in Melbourne, Sheik Omran, also declared last month: "No victory (for Islam's brothers and sisters) can be stopped by George Bush or Tony Blair or John Howard."

Under expanded sedition provisions, people face up to seven years' jail for promoting feelings of ill will or hostility between different groups so as to threaten the peace, order and government of the commonwealth. This would include urging another person to engage in conduct that supports an organisation or country at war with Australia.

A third cleric - Harun Abu Talha, editor of contentious newspaper Mecca News - has also used Friday prayers at Sheik Omran's Brunswick mosque in Melbourne to attack "the criminal government of Israel that has been hurting our brothers and sisters in Palestine for so many years".

And during a prayer meeting last month, Abu Talha said: "We should not compromise our dean (religion) for the sake of peace." He concluded his sermon: "May Allah help the mujaheddin in Iraq."

The message the fundamentalist clerics are delivering to their supporters - mostly in Arabic - is in dramatic contrast to their public statements.

Last month, Sheik Zoud told about 400 followers in Arabic: "God grant victory to the mujaheddin in Kashmir and Chechnya, and Palestine and Afghanistan."

Sheik Zoud, head of the Sydney arm of the Melbourne-based organisation Ahlus Sunnah Wal-Jamaah declared: "Inshallah (God willing), dark days will descend upon America soon."

But during a newspaper interview last year, Sheik Zoud said: "I'm against all terrorism over the world. I'm against all terrorists who kill civilian people.

"Let the Australian people relax. Why everyone make the Australian people scared from the Muslims?

"We left our countries because of all of the problems there, and we move to this safe country to live the rest of our life."

After Mr Howard singled out Sheik Omran earlier this year for not doing enough to denounce terrorism, the cleric wrote to The Australian: "We consider ourselves Australians working for the betterment of Australia. Those of us who came from other countries appreciate how the people of this country have accepted us with open arms.

"Islam teaches us to appreciate kindness, and we wouldn't do anything to betray this gesture."

However, during the Ramadan prayer meeting last month, he ridiculed the US's botched handling of the hurricane and floods that destroyed New Orleans: "If they couldn't stop a tiny wave, then they cannot stop us uniting. If you don't unite, your faces will be smeared in dirt."

Sheik Omran's message, delivered just days after suicide bombers launched the second major attack on tourists in Bali, was received enthusiastically by the group of 150 men, predominantly in their early 20s and 30s, during a Friday sermon at Brunswick's Michael Street prayer centre in Melbourne's inner north.

Sheik Omran gloated over the fears held by Westerners towards the festival of Ramadan, saying history had shown an increase of militant insurgencies and attacks around the world at that time of the year.

"The West knows the meaning of Ramadan more than we do, it seems," said the Sheik, who was previously accused by the Spanish authorities of having links to an al-Qa'ida suspect in Europe.

"They fear the worst - unity. So what are we doing to unite and defeat evil?"

The following week, the sermon was given by Abu Talha, who joked: "We cannot say too much about the mujaheddin in this country."

Thanks for the clarification (I wasn't sure where you were coming from). Iran seems to be doing everything possible to start a War with the US right now, which makes me wonder if they don't have assurances from Russia that they will not 'intervene' to help the US or worse....that they will help Iran to defeat the US.
