Even in Wisconsin, where there was broad popular opposition to McCarthy, most of the media backed the senator. He was a favorite of the Milwaukee Sentinel and the Wisconsin State Journal. And media outlets, including The Capital Times and The Progressive, that challenged his lies - beginning with Capital Times editorials published in 1946 - were condemned for their "disloyalty."

I wonder if the editorial writers know what century we're in?

No one has yet to prove McCarthy wrong about anyone he accused. The reds DID have the government thoroughly penetrated. Joe's only fault was that he didn't work hard enough exposing the commies in the media and academia.

You can see the result of that failure today in just about every university and college in American, and at most major news organizations.

Fox, WaTimes, NY Post, and some others excepted.

The Capital Crimes was the Pravda on the Prarie whose editor in the 60s claimed that the American pilots captured in North Viet Nam should have been treated and charged as pirates.

The Capital Crimes is still one of the foremost Anti-American Rags in the the USA.

I read a good book by William F. Buckley titled "Red Hunter" about the McCarthy era. Although a novel, Buckley said the historical parts were accurate.

I think as the Soviet Union has allowed some of it's formerly secret files to be made public, it is clear that McCarthy was basically right.

I suspect the new movie will simply be Commies patting themselves on the back.

Only over time did it become clear that the critics of McCarthy were the patriots. À l'effet contraire. McCarthy was right!

"The red-baiting Republican senator from Wisconsin used to refer to this newspaper as "the Pravda of the Prairie"

I've always been sort of amused, that socialists continue to refer to McCarthy as being a "red baiter," while continuing to deny that there were any "reds" to bait.

McCarthy is so hated by the left because he was implying that their gods were evil and he was making it harder for their gods to operate.

'You can't believe half of what you read in the papers' is becoming an all-too-common phrase in this country. This feeling has been engendered to a large extent by distortion of news, suppression of news, the injection of the personal views and prejudices of publishers into the news, and the misuse of newspapers in attacking and persecuting individuals and institutions unjustly and unfairly.

Dec. 13, 1917 - from the first editorial in his newspaper The Capital Times

They should take their own rhetoric to heart.

Joseph McCarthy exposed the Left for what it was, which is why the Left has never stopped hating him.

"Joe McCarthy hated The Capital Times and The Capital Times hated Joe McCarthy." The question is who hated whom first? Also, a publication that has the capacity to hate a public figure isn't going to report objectively about the object of their hate.

Therefore, anything that the Capitol Times says in opposition to George W. Bush must be seen through the lens of the Hate for the President in the Capitol Times news room.

This may be a watershed statement by a publication; that is to actually admit and inject the emotion of hate into their reporting. We all know that it is there (Couric, Rather, NYT,etc.)but, now it is documented.

There are probably more Alger Hiss's now than they were in the McCarthy era due to out of control political correctness.

Even in Wisconsin, where there was broad popular opposition to McCarthy, most of the media backed the senator.

I grew up in WI, and none of my relatives or friends' relatives ever spoke of that time. He was never mentioned in state history classes or if so, only glossed over. Heck, I can see going after some of those Holliwood commies, but didn't McCarthy even go after I Love Lucy! THAT was over the line! LOL

How did Thomas Jefferson get mixed up with the First Amendment? On the day that Congress sent what became the Bill of Rights to the states for ratification, Jefferson was still in Paris.

Joe McCarthy was right, God bless his sainted soul.

The Federal government WAS filled with communists and fellow travlers from the FDR administration forwards. Recently released Secret Soviet files on traitors like Alger Hiss and other monsters substantiate Joe McCarthy's claims.

But today's cryptocommunists and pseudo-liberals are still trying to crucify a saint.

Again, Senator Joe McCarthy - whereveer you are, may God Bless you and thank you for exposing the worms eating out the heart of America. We could use more like you today - BADLY.
