Army Chaplain Sentenced For Sodomizing Troops

BAMBERG, Germany -- A U.S. Army chaplain has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to three counts of forcible sodomy against enlisted men.

Capt. Gregory Arflack, a 44-year-old Roman Catholic priest, apologized at his court-martial in Germany. He sobbed and said, "I've had a lot of time to pray and consider what I've done as a priest and an officer and I'm ashamed."

One of the victims, whom Arflack had been counseling about homesickness and family troubles, told the court, "I don't understand how a person of the cloth could do something like that."

He added, "I didn't believe God would allow something like that to happen."

Arflack confessed to plying three soldiers -- ages 18, 19 and 20 -- with alcohol and making unwanted advances. He forced oral sex on one soldier in the bathroom of a bar and on the other two at his home, where they had passed out on his sofa.

Sexual abuse, whether or not it's rape, or just plying someone with liquor to "have your way with them", or forcing yourself on someone is not about sexuality, whether homo, or hetero.

The cause that incites the abuser is not their hetero or homo sexuality; sex is usually a substitute for power for such individuals. It is either an abuse of power or an attempt to be powerful when they are not. If you look at most sex abusers, they were usually in positions of power or influence over those they abused, or they sought to excercise power over the individuals they abused. That is how they came to be abusers, whether they are a rapist or a sodomizing priest.

The priest actually may or may not have been a homosexual.

But, targeting homosexuality, because of this incident of abuse, would be like targeting heterosexuality simply because the vast majority of rapes are committed by heterosexuals.

Sexual abuse is sexual abuse, period.

I don't understand how this guy tried these things and didn't get his clock punched before he was arrested. His victims aren't 7 years old and certainly aren't defenseless.

"And people argue that there won't be a problem with gays in the military."

Bad example. This really isn't a gays in the military problem; it's a gays in the Catholic clergy problem.

Certainly abuse happens in all churches, synagogues, mosques...but I don't fault the Catholic church because of abuse but rather that they seem to encourage the abuse to take place with their policies towards predatory priests.

Double standards??? "IF" this activity had not been tolerated, covered up, paid off, the MSM would have NOTHING to say.

it's a gays in the Catholic clergy problem.

My take on it exactly. As a Catholic clergyman, I'm appalled at how many there are considering my faith has always seen this orientation as a disorder. Any other psychological disorder would exclude a man from Holy Orders immediately. But gays have had a free ride for far too long.

The Roman Catholic Church just happens to be the MSM's favorite

Maybe this is good in a roundabout, find a silver lining sort of way. It will force cleansing on the church while the others continue to sink under the weight of their own depravity.

I think one reason the media DOES focus on the RC is that we are one of the few churches with the unmitigated gall to actually stand up and say as a body that homosexuality is a disordered lifestyle. So, since to the left the only sin there is, is hypocracy, they are all over us like flies on honey.

They do not understand that to us, the fact that all of our members, even (especially) priests do not live up to the ideal is no reason to scrap it, it is all the more reason to keep it, and strive ever harder to reach it.

"It is not unique to the Roman Catholic Church. The Roman Catholic Church just happens to be the MSM's favorite subject when it comes to this...it DOES happen in EVERY church..."

What other religions require celibacy? The religions I am familiar with encourage a normal sexual relationship with a spouse for their ministers/priests/whatchyacallems.

I call BS on that. He performed sex acts on another man. That is homosexual acting out. I wonder what happened to the enlisted men. They were of age. To say "he got me drunk" is a pretty thin excuse. I believe that under the UCMJ they aren't even supposed to get drunk.

What does celibacy have to do with homosexual acting out? I don't think it drives men to be homosexuals. It HAS led to priests having affairs, but if they were homos in the priesthood, chances are they were homos before they were ordained.

You are NOT giving credibility to the supposed stature of a priest.

I hope you're not saying they deserved to be molested by this freak who they put their trust in. Who knows what this guy put in their drinks. What should they have done after they were molested, just walk it off?

Pope Benedict, please get non-chaste, predatory gays out of the priesthood!!!! I am so sick of these stories!!!!

Ya think the previous Pope didn't have any inkling of the problem

But he was running all over the world on some messianic dream while his own flock was coming undone
