A UNIVERSITY student died after being hurled 100ft through the air by a medieval-style "trebuchet" catapult, an inquest heard yesterday.
Kostydin Yankov, 19, an Oxford University student, suffered multiple injuries and serious spinal damage when he fell short of the safety net.
He was on a day trip with the extreme sports club, The Oxford Stunt Factory, to Bridgwater, Somerset, in November 2002 when tragedy struck.

What do you suppose was his last thought as he saw he was going to miss the net?

"He was on a day trip with the extreme sports club, The Oxford Stunt Factory, to Bridgwater, Somerset, in November 2002 when tragedy struck this wholly predictable outcome was obtained." There, I fixed it.

"This is going to leave a mark" Perhaps that he was about to earn a Darwin award.

What do you suppose was his last thought as he saw he was going to miss the net?I'm sure, like most teenagers, he figured that missing the net only happens to OTHER teenagers who go catapulting 100 feet through the air.

Hope they will not be building costumer machines any soon. If they saw the mark was short (even after calculations. They did calculations and practice shots, right?) they should have placed the net again. That's a Darwin award for sure.

before they could afford a catapult they just threw bricks at each other.

I wonder at what point he figured out it wasn't going to work?

November 2002! Man - he must have REALLY missed the net if they only found him now!!
At the pumpkin patch we go to every year they launch pumpkins. And every year someone will say "lets go watch the catapult toss the pumpkin". And every year I have to whisper to my kids "It's a trebuchet".
I'm pretty sure that a trebuchet is NOT a catapult. Or - is it really just a type of catapult?

The machine was designed and built in April 2000 by David Aitkenhead, 46, and Richard Wicks, 34, both founder members of the Dangerous Sports Club. Last year they stood trial for manslaughter at Bristol Crown Court over Dino's death, but were cleared when the judge threw out the case because of a lack of evidence.the machine, the body... lack of evidence?
