Ya know for us Freepers from the other side of the country who don't know the names of the people involved this is one of the most confusing stories on FR. And the MD Freepers yak about it like every fool should know who is who and who's on first.
How was MD4Bush outed? Who revealed his name.
Why was Steffen trusing enough of this guy to reveal who he worked for?
Why should anyone be interested other than in Maryland?

Why should anyone be interested other than in Maryland? MD4BUSH's name is coming from the investigation undertaken by the Governor (Republican).
This story involves FR directly and illuminates some of the dems dirty tricks.

If you're confused, then do a little reading about
MD4Bush The story has its roots in private messages here on FreeRepublic and could be big enough to affect the 2006 Maryland Governor race and the 2006 Maryland Senate race. You may not have any interest in Maryland politics, but this could give the MD Dems such a black eye that the GOP could capture a Senate seat in Maryland, of all places!

Working in cahoots with at least one Democrat Party staff member, The Washington Post engaged in a disgraceful effort to smear Governor Robert Ehrlich.

A Freeper, NCPAC, was fired from his job in Maryland based on posts and FRmail exchanges he had with a Democratic Operative posting under the name, MD4Bush.
It is significant to Freepers because one of us was damaged through dirty tricks of a political operative and further significant because the Washington Post had to know who this source was before they published the story.
There are many articles available under the keyword MD4Bush. One is at the link below.

How was MD4Bush outed?
MD4Bush wasn't outed. Governor Ehrlich's lawyer, Jervis Finney, suspects it may be Ryan O'Doherty, who was working for the Maryland Democratic Party in February when the NCPAC/MDBush affair first came into the news. This is based on an e-mail O'Doherty sent to Democrat supporters around the same time as MD4Bush's last FR post.
Why was Steffen trusing enough of this guy to reveal who he worked for?
Steffen, a.k.a. FReeper NCPAC, never revealed who he worked for to MD4Bush. He was working for Governor Ehrlich (R-MD) before all of this came to light. NCPAC was accused by the Washington Post and Baltimore Sun of spreading rumors about Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley's infidelity on this website, when he was actually baited by MD4Bush and merely commented on rumors spread by him. NCPAC was forced to resign his job, and hasn't been heard much from since (until yesterday).
To this day, we don't know for sure how the Washington Post determined NCPAC was Joseph Steffen. But he left enough clues about his personal life on this website that it would have been relatively easy to guess.
Why should anyone be interested other than in Maryland?
Well, the MSM outed a FReeper for one. It showed that you couldn't expect to hide behind your FR screen name if you posted personal information on this site. It also became national news at the time. The Washington Post and Baltimore Sun stayed on the story for a week or so. Posts on this website and interviews with FReeper Kristinn forced them to moderate their stories as the week went on. Their original stories were extremely one-sided and unfavorable to NCPAC.
The original story also broke around the time Jeff Gannon was forced out of his White House reporting job. Some theorized the MSM was trying to strike back at the Internet at the time.

Why should anyone be interested other than in Maryland? I like to know what the opposition is up to in as many different places as possible.
