Bob Ray Sanders and White Robes/Black Robes While the DNC was getting its Italian slur campaign ginned up, Fort Worth Star Telegrapg columnist Bob Ray Sanders was warming up the racist accusations.
Last week, in an entry on his blog for the paper, Sanders wrote:
[G]et ready for the next nominee, who is likely to be a judge as comfortable in a white robe as a black one.
I received an e-mail asserting that Sanders applied the "white sheet" slander to Judge Alito on a Dallas television show this morning. Today I interviewed Sanders, who denied saying that about Judge Alito. While he would not retreat from this slanderous assertion generally, he would also not name a single name from the short list to whom this slander applies.
That proves, of course, that his is empty rhetoric, a pose, and an indictment of his credibility on such matters.
Radioblogger will post a transcript and the audio later. If anyone has audio of Sanders' appearance on Dallas Channel 4 this morning, please send it along.
I've read and listened to Sanders for 20 years. He has made a career of being a race baiting lightweight, which plays well on NPR. My thanks go to Hewitt for calling him on his hypocrisy.
Uhhh...as to the white sheet...he's Italian. The Klan doesn't dig on us much either.
Beating to death an inacticulate kook was a bit of a bullying exercise by Hewitt. I did not find favor with it. Let him take on those who are more closely his intellectual equals. Not everyone can manage to secure a JD from the University of Michigan.
And now, Mary Backstage, Noble Wife, brought to you by Einbinder Flypaper...I love Bob & Ray!
I listened to Hugh for a few weeks when he first came on up here, and wasn't hooked. I really only continued because RonDog here liked him so.
But then I heard him interview this aide to Gray Davis. He was polite, but he was absolutely bare-knucks -- asked him great questions, and didn't take s#!+, if you'll pardon my French. (I remember one point where he exclaimed, "Oh, come on -- do you think my listeners are STUPID?")
He is simply the best interviewer going; I honestly can't think of a better.
And I'm hooked now. Even though he ignores my blog!
Dan
I am pinging you to this thread....
I KNOW that you love to spar with Bob Ray...and I wonder if you saw this interview on Channel 4...or would be able to get a copy of it...
We would appreciate it!!!
Sanders is not, in general, inarticulate. Hewitt's insistence that he support his statement, or at the very least, provide an example is what drove him to the point of incoherent babbling. IMO, that's not bullying.
Every afternoon from 3-6 on WOR.
Hewitt verbally punched the guy, again and again, and he was just sitting there, like a deer in headlights. He had no tools at all. It was an embarrassment.
Yes--Sanders deserved to be embarrassed. Should his KKK assertion have gone unchallenged?

See how easy that is?
Hugh had a battle of wits with an unarmed man, I laughed MAO. I almost drove off the rode.
Yes, and that's almost a verbatim recap of Hewitt's close. He had to get to that point first.
This was a conversation. As such, Sanders's hypocrisy, coupled with his own occasional jabs, grew over time.
It was the 10 sanguinary minutes before of a nausiating repetition of Hewitt unchallenged pugilism that was the rub. It went on for about 8 minutes too long. Maybe Hewitt had nothing else as a backup for the Saunders time slot. The moral of that story, is always have a back up.
Hewitt is or should be a national treasure. His scorcher with "Jim-Bob JumpBack Jr" was a "whooping", justly deserved, but a rare one, because Hewitt is too class an act for spanking every fool he runs into.
Hewitt is genius. A remarkable ear and eye for "key facts" and an opinion leader's knack for bringing out the best in great people. Ok! So he is a damn smarty pants!
Learn to love it.
