CT Courthouse update:
Man Arrested On Charges Of Courthouse Bombing Threats
UPDATED: 1:17 pm EST December 6, 2005
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- State police on Monday arrested a Willimantic man who is accused of phoning in bomb threats that cleared courthouses across Connecticut last week.
Javier Rodriguez was arrested at his home in Willimantic without incident. He was charged with terrorism, falsely reporting an incident, attempted larceny by extortion and harassment.
Authorities say he made four telephone calls threatening the bombings. But they have no reason to believe the 28-year-old Rodriguez made threatening calls Monday that cleared courthouses in Bristol and New Britain.
Rodriguez was held on $250,000 bond at State Police barracks in Colchester. He was scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Danielson Tuesday.
Connecticut homeland security officials went more than two hours Friday without knowing that the bomb threats forced the evacuation of the courthouses. Public Safety Commissioner Leonard Boyle said the threat fell between the cracks because it was more than a routine scare but did not rise to the level of a statewide emergency.
