We're expecting our taxes to skyrocket because Californians have come into our area too, buying the $300,000 - $600,000 homes here with cash from the sale of their million dollar homes there. Since they've begun arriving here, we now have graffiti and cars with sound systems that can be heard a city block away. Yes Granny, I can easily relate to what you say.

Mamadearest your post fits exactly where I live now. Our taxes have tripled in the last 5 years. I have no city water, no sewage and live on a dirt road. Now how is tax money helping us?

The sad thing is property has skyrocketed also. We have had this house as a summer house since 1985 and retired in 1995. Yes the value has also gone up 4 times what we paid for the house but that is not what we moved here for, we moved for peace of mind.

We lived in Fayetteville, Georgia where we saw the same thing happen.

First the taxes go up then the house prices go up, next thing you know your trash can has to be placed on the right side of the driveway and handle pointing to the road or they will not pick up you trash. Then you get a nasty certified letter telling you how to place your trash can.

Only one car parked in the drive way and heaven forbid you leave your garage door open for any reason, and drapes on garage windows and on and on and on.

We are seeing this area moving in the same direction.

The locals don't understand they just see ggg-granddad's property worth more than they ever dreamed.

We have written letter's to the paper and talked till we have turned blue in the face and the locals don't get it.

One bright spot is that they were going to put an interstate right through the middle of us, so far no go, just give them time.

You can fight them, 20 years ago, a militia type group here, fought planning and zoning and managed to keep them from stopping us storing stuff on our land, such as building materials and etc.

Took about 5 years.

I worked hard to stop the County dump from going over our water supply.

At one public State Health Meeting, My main question was:

How do you clean underground water, as you say you will do, if the test wells show it is contaminated?"

and

"Does the water still run downhill ?"

"If so then it runs right into our water vein for the entire valley".

They just stared at granny asking questions, as I had waited for my time, I knew the water veins in that area and no one else, did or had said a word about "How you clean underground water at the 1500' deep level.

The official State Health dept minutes of the meeting said:

Mrs. granny asked pertinent questions.............

It does not show that there was a water worry.

The dump went in where the supervisors wanted it, and later
proof was found of a payoff, as they cleared a huge mine to never maintain the mine dump or clean the site.

I once asked the FBI to come here and help clean up the politics, he stared at me, as if he couldn't understand how a common granny could know so much about what was going on.

LOL, I had the last laugh, as he was trying to pass and kept asking "How did you know I was FBI?", he was quietly in town for a trial.

I took one look, and knew who he was, even in casual clothes.

I heard today, a man call our 'swap shop on the radio" and ask if anyone did cement work, he and the host talked for a couple minutes, seems the new home building is so active here, that the contractors will not even look at the small private jobs.

The last boom in 89/90 ruined the area, so this time it will really go to hell.
