Miami police take new tack against terror

Snip: MIAMI - Miami police announced Monday they will stage random shows of force at hotels, banks and other public places to keep terrorists guessing and remind people to be vigilant.

Deputy Police Chief Frank Fernandez said officers might, for example, surround a bank building, check the IDs of everyone going in and out and hand out leaflets about terror threats. "This is an in-your-face type of strategy. It's letting the terrorists know we are out there," Fernandez said.

CPR made easier

Snip: After reviewing thousands of studies, an international team of scientists found that CPR is too complicated for the average person. That is deadly for the more than 250,000 people who collapse each year in cardiac arrest.

"The most common reason many people die is because no one nearby knew CPR, or if they did know it, they didn't actually do it," says Michael Sayre of Ohio State University in Columbus, one of the authors of the new guidelines.

Now it's simple: Call for help. Push the chest. Don't stop. Two rescue breaths can be given after every 30 compressions, but mouth-to-mouth is optional.

Canyon County labels gang activity Domestic Terrorism

Snip: The federal government has tightened guidelines for emergency management procedures after Y2K and the attacks on the World Trade Center. Canyon County Commissioners say gang activity should be included in the revisions, but some question if categorizing gangs in the emergency plan will change how the county deals with the problem.

Stockholm mosque calls for extermination of Jews

Snip: Swedish Radio News (SRN) reported today that a Stockholm mosque is selling cassettes calling for a genocidal holy war against the Jews. According to SRN, the cover of one of the cassettes shows a picture of the Statue of Liberty draped in a burning American flag.

Sales of cassettes promoting genocide are illegal in Sweden. A spokesman for the mosque blamed volunteers for stocking the mosque bookstore with the cassettes.
