Ex-terrorists to speak
at new venue
Princeton University canceled event because 'too inflammatory'

Three former terrorists will speak today at a new location after their
event was canceled by Princeton University because the term terrorist
reportedly was deemed "too inflammatory."
A press conference is scheduled for 6 p.m. tonight at the Radisson
Hotel, 4355 Route 1 at Ridge Road, in Princeton, N.J., followed by a
lecture and question-and-answer session.
The speakers will discuss the terrorist mindset and how they were
indoctrinated and instructed to kill and maim.
The event originally was to be held at Princeton University's McCosh
50 Lecture Theatre.
After learning of the cancellation, the organization sponsoring the
event, the Walid Shoebat Foundation, claimed Princeton was violating
the free-speech rights of the speakers.
Participants in the event are:

Walid Shoebat, who came from a prominent family in Bethlehem. After
joining the Palestinian Liberation Organization, he took part in
numerous attacks against Israel, including a bank bombing. He also was
involved in the attempted lynching of an Israeli soldier.

Zak Anani was a leader of the most notorious Arab gangs prior to the
Lebanese civil war. Before turning 16, he killed numerous Arabs in
gang warfare and hated the West and Israel.

Ibrahim Abadallah was born and raised in Dearborn, Mich., to a
Jordanian father. At 17, he emigrated to Israel, where he joined the
PLO. He injured many Israelis while rioting and throwing Molotov
cocktails.

Sources in the Iraqi police said that more than 20 gunmen attacked the
public hospital in Karkouk north of Iraq and opened fire at the guards
and this resulted in killing three of them and injuring other 6.

Treasury Department Tars Alamoudi,
Founder of the Islamic Society of Boston

Treasury Department Tars Alamoudi, Founder of the Islamic Society of
Boston
By MEGHAN CLYNE - Staff Reporter of the Sun
December 9, 2005

WASHINGTON - Concern is mounting over the connections between a Boston
Islamic group and a high-profile Muslim activist, Abdurahman Alamoudi,
after a recent statement by the federal government that Mr. Alamoudi
had a "close relationship" with Al Qaeda and that he raised money for
Al Qaeda in America.
Alamoudi - who is serving a 23-year sentence in federal prison after
having pleaded guilty in 2004 to participating in a Libyan plot to
assassinate Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah - is also a founder of the
Islamic Society of Boston. The society is now embroiled in a bitter
legal dispute over the society's efforts to build a mosque with the
aid of public subsidies.

That lawsuit, according to journalists and terrorism investigators, is
part of a larger trend of litigation by Muslim groups that, they say,
is having a "chilling effect" on the ability to report domestic ties
to terrorism.
In July, Alamoudi was cited in a Treasury Department press release
designating the Movement for Islamic Reform in Arabia, a U.K.-based
Saudi oppositionist organization, led by Saad al-Faqih, as providing
material support for Al Qaeda. MIRA "received approximately $1 million
in funding through Abdulrahman Alamoudi," the statement said.
"According to information available to the U.S.Government," the
statement continues, "the September 2003 arrest of Alamoudi was a
severe blow to Al Qaeda, as Alamoudi had a close relationship with Al
Qaeda and had raised money for Al Qaeda in the United States." The
Treasury Department has declined to provide further information,
saying the material is classified.

Alamoudi, an Eritrean-born naturalized American citizen, was arrested
in 2003 on charges of having participated in a Libyan assassination
plot against Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Abdullah, an allegation to
which he admitted in the 2004 plea agreement with federal prosecutors.
He was also stripped of his American citizenship after admitting to
having obtained it fraudulently.

"Bangladesh says it arrests key explosive supplier to militants"
(AFP)

10 December 2005

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "DHAKA - Bangladesh’s elite security force said on Saturday it had arrested the main supplier of explosives to an Islamic group waging a suicide bombing campaign to establish Islamic law in the Muslim nation.

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) also said it had seized a huge cache of explosives and bomb-making equipment sufficient to make 200 powerful bombs.

“We have arrested Tariqul, 28, who we believe is the main supplier of explosives to the Jamayetul Mujahideen,” a senior RAB officer told AFP.

“He’s being interrogated and information has already helped us seize explosives across the country,” the officer said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Police have linked the outlawed group to a series of nationwide blasts since August and a new suicide bomb campaign that has claimed 21 lives in the past two weeks.

Thousands of police and all 10 battalion of the RAB, set up a year ago, have been making nationwide raids to hunt the members of the group and its fugitive leader Shaikh Abdur Rahman."

Iraqi Sunnis reverse policy, to join poll
Atul Aneja
Leaders urge kidnappers to free foreign hostages; disavow Al-Zarqawi's
actions

DUBAI: As the countdown for parliamentary elections begins, Iraq's
Sunni community is likely to show up in strength at polling stations.
Unlike Iraq's previous elections, which have been boycotted, the
hardline Sunni factions, who are known to have links with resistance
fighters, have been appealing in mosques for a larger turnout during
the December 15 elections. A cleric from The Association of Muslim
Scholars told worshippers that the upcoming elections would be a
"landmark event."

"It is a decisive battle that will determine our future. If you give
your vote to the wrong people, then the occupation will continue and
the country would be lost. Participation in the elections is a must
and it is a religious duty," he said. Buoyed by inroads made by
resistance fighters, Sunni factions have now begun to acquire a larger
political profile. They were represented at last month's Cairo
conference, where Iraq's Sunni-dominated neighbouring countries,
including Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan were present, apart from Iran
and the United States.

The Arab League sponsored conference acknowledged that resistance to
foreign occupation in Iraq was legitimate. The participants, however,
made it clear that they opposed terrorism as perpetrated by the
Al-Qaeda linked Abu Musab Al Zarqawi's group. Reinforcing their
rejection of terrorism, Sunni clerics have urged kidnappers to release
an American, two Canadians and a Briton who had been abducted on
November 26.

During prayers in the Al-Imam Al-Aadam mosque in Baghdad's y Sunni
Arab neighbourhood, cleric Ahmed Hassan stressed on the "necessity to
release the four kidnapped foreigners who have helped the residents of
Azamiyah."

Spain arrests Croatian war crimes fugitive

ISN SECURITY WATCH (08/12/05) - Croatian retired General Ante
Gotovina, wanted
for war crimes against Croatian Serb civilians in 1995, has been
arrested in
Spain on the Canary islands after having been on the run from the
authorities
since 2001.

The Croatian authorities have refused to comment on his arrest so far,
but Carla
del Ponte, the chief prosecutor for the Hague-based International
Criminal
Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), on Thursday confirmed
Gotovina's
capture the night before.

Spanish officials have also refused to comment on the arrest.

"Ante Gotovina was arrested this night in Spain. He's now in
detention," del
Ponte told reporters during a visit to the Serbian capital, Belgrade,
on
Thursday.

She said Gotovina was due to appear at a court in the Spanish capital,
Madrid,
later on Thursday.

The ICTY chief prosecutor said Gotovina would be transferred to the UN
court in
The Hague as soon as possible.

Del Ponte said Gotovina had finally been tracked to the Canary islands
in
September, though it was unclear why he was only arrested in December.

While the chief prosecutor has long been critical of the Croatian
authorities
for what she called their failure to fully cooperate in tracking down
and
arresting Gotovina, she had only words of praise on Thursday.

"I am very grateful to Croatia for all the work they have done with us
and with
the Spanish authorities, and of course I am grateful to the Spanish
authorities
who worked with us and with Croatia," Del Ponte told reporters in
Belgrade.

The ICTY indicted Gotovina for war crimes in mid-2001, and the retired
general
has been on the run ever since. The US had also placed a bounty of
US$2.8
million for information leading to his capture.

Gotovina is the ICTY's third most-wanted man - after Bosnian Serb
wartime leader
Radovan Karadzic and Bosnian Serb army general Ratko Mladic, who are
both still
on the run. He is accused of war crimes against Serb civilians during
the 1995
Croatian "Storm" and "Thunder" military offensives to expel Serb
forces from the
country.

At home, he is largely viewed as a hero who helped fight for Croatia's
independence against Serb forces led by Slobodan Milosevic.

In August 1995, Croatia launched a military offensive, with the
objective of
re-taking its Krajina region from Serb forces. During the two
operations "Storm"
and "Thunder", at least 150 Croatian Serbs, mostly civilians, were
killed and
some 150,000 others expelled and forced to flee to Serbia.

Gotovina's arrest has been one of the EU's key conditions for Zagreb's
EU
membership bid. The EU launched membership talks with Croatia in
October after
Del Ponte said the country had begun to cooperate with the UN tribunal.

However, before then, Del Ponte had accused both Croatian politicians
and the
Catholic Church of sheltering him. In October, she went as far as
accusing the
Vatican hierarchy of sheltering him, or of being aware that he had
been hiding
out in Franciscan monasteries in Croatia and Bosnia.

Gotovina, a member of the French Foreign Legion, could have sought
shelter among
former comrades just about anywhere, media and observers speculated.

Earlier this year, the Croatian magazine Nacional published an
interview with
Gotovina, allegedly recorded in Ireland.

Croatian media have also accused him of connections to armed groups
such as the
Irish Republican Army (IRA) and the Basque separatist group ETA.
According to
those unconfirmed reports, Gotovina worked as instructor for those
separatist
groups during his time on the run.

Croatian media have also said Gotovina had several passports from West
European
and South American countries.

In the spring of 2001, Croatian authorities confirmed that Gotovina
had been
issued a French passport by the French embassy in Zagreb only days
before he was
indicted by the ICTY.

Iraqi authorities say they've had no contact with
kidnappers (also: Egyptian hostage found dead)
KFTY TV50 ^ | 12.10.2005

Posted on 12/10/2005 12:40:43 PM PST by Hadean

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - The fate of the four
Westerners held hostage is Iraq is still unknown.

Today marks the deadline set by the hostage
takers to kill the men, who were kidnapped two
weeks ago. The hostages include two Canadians,
an American and a British citizen.

Iraqi authorities say they haven't had any contact
with the group known as the Swords of Righteousness Brigade. The
hostage takers want U.S. and Iraqi authorities to release all prisoners
being held in Iraq.

A television station in Iraq says about 240 detainees held by
multinational forces have been released today. But such releases are
common and usually are arranged weeks in advance.

Meantime, another kidnap victim has been found dead today north of
Tikrit. Police say the Egyptian contractor was taken yesterday at
gunpoint.

Indonesia Muslims to guard churches
al Jazzera ^ | 09 Dec 2005

Posted on 12/10/2005 1:35:01 PM PST by Semper911

Volunteers from Indonesia's largest Islamic organisation will guard churches across the world's most populous Muslim nation on Christmas amid fears of terrorist attacks.

Jakarta police have said they will boost security in the capital ahead of Christmas to avoid a repeat of 2000 Christmas Eve bombings on churches in several Indonesian cities, including the country's capital.

A youth wing affiliated with Indonesia's largest Muslim group, Nahdlatul Ulama, 40 million strong, told Reuters on Friday that its members would guard churches for the coming Christmas festivities and it had persuaded youths from other religions to join the project.

Tatang Hidayat, national coordinator of NU's Banser group, said: "We have an annual programme to set up posts to secure Christmas. For this year, I have contacted groups from other religions like the Hindus and Buddhists and they have responded positively."

Hidayat said the volunteers would closely collaborate with existing police operations and the churches' own security.

Around 17,000 policemen are expected to safeguard Christmas celebrations in Jakarta alone.
