Hezbollah boosting ties to al-Qaida claim
By Martin Sieff Dec 7, 2005, 1:03 GMT

WASHINGTON, DC, United States (UPI) -- Lebanon and Israel may be facing the prospect of massively increased terror attack threats.

New reports claim that al-Qaida has set up an organizing center in Lebanon and that Iran has boosted its ties to West Bank Palestinian militants, especially Islamic Jihad, who have launched a new suicide bomber campaign against Israel.

The Lebanese Shiite weekly Shiraa, which opposes the Iranian-backed Hezbollah, or Party of God, is claiming this week that al-Qaida has already set up an operational command base in the country.

It also claims that Imad Mughniyeh, the prominent Hezbollah leader, is representing al-Qaida in talks with potential sympathetic Palestinian leaders in the south of the country.

Al-Shiraa said Mughniyeh also met with Jemal Suleiman, head of the Palestinian Ansar Allah, and with Abu Mahujayn, Shehada Jawahr and Khaled Safayn, who lead Palestinian militias in the Bureij camp.

The report follows other indications of growing al-Qaida influence in Lebanon.

****when I was a child department stores and such weren't open on Sunday's...so my outlook is old-fashioned****

You're not the only one who remembers the Sabbath Day being honored. I don't recall it caused us any difficulty - it was, after all, a family day - something else not observed these days.

I've had no luck locating the medallion and fear she may have swallowed it. Thus far she is not showing any signs of a problem, but we are watching her closely - just in case.

Add extra natural fiber to the catfood and watch the litter box carefully.

Judge blanks Bakr again

Date: 7, December 05, at 9:44 a.m.

HIGH COURT Judge Herbert Volney made it quite clear yesterday that Trinidad and Tobago is different to Libya and Iran. He said the statements made by Jamaat al Muslimeen leader Yasin Abu Bakr at the Eid celebrations at his Mucurapo mosque on November 4, would be appropriate for Libya and Iran, not Trinidad and Tobago.

Hot tub and cappuccinos with vanilla and cinnamon for everyone.

I'll be there, albeit cyber-sipping.

To: Cindy; All

I've really tried very hard to ignore all the news today. But with a son flying back from HongKong tomorrow and a husband flying back from Latvia on Friday, I could not ignore it and am feeling a bit apprehensive about all this stuff going on right now. The TM is the only place I can rely on for the "real" news. I suppose worry can be a good thing. At least I know what might be expected and can alert them of what to be aware. Thank goodness for satellite phones.

(P.S. They think I am alarmist paranoid, but they love me anyway. I'm waiting for the day when I can say, "I told you so." But, I pray I never have to.)

Warning: The author of this article is obviously anti-West, U.S. in particular; and pro-Islam/jihadi.

Snip from article:

Al-Qaeda's weapon
Asia Times Online, meanwhile, has learned of the release in Afghanistan of a state-of-the-art CD comprising selected speeches by Osama bin Laden from 2002 to December 2004. The CD is already available (illegally) in Pakistan and in parts of the Middle East.

Security experts believe that soon it will flood the market as the first step towards a broader al-Qaeda goal; to shed its shadowy image and openly propagate the call for mass jihad against the US and any other foreign occupiers in the Middle East.

The CD's speeches address specific audiences, like the one in 2002 to the Pakistani nation, the 2003 speech to Americans, a speech in 2004 to Europe and the December 2004 address to the people of the Arabian peninsula (Saudi Arabia).

The CD includes horrifying images of war and destruction in Iraq, and pays tribute to the Iraqi resistance.

Unlike in the past, the CD appears to have been made by professionals in a well-equipped studio. The audio and visual effects are clear, with English subtitles for non-Arabic speakers. Additionally, separate formatted files include transcripts in languages such as Urdu, Persian, English and Arabic.

"This package clearly shows one thing, that al-Qaeda has strongly regrouped and in an organized manner is spreading its propaganda material to the whole of the Muslim world," a senior Pakistani security official told Asia Times Online.

The lengthiest and most impressive speech on the CD is bin Laden's December 2004 video address to the people of the Arabian peninsula in which he explains why the rulers in Saudi Arabia were being targeted by al-Qaeda. The reasons included their corruption, tyranny, abuse of human rights and deviation from the basic Islamic faith.

A senior Pakistani intelligence analyst commented, "Previously, al-Qaeda used to spread propaganda material which would motivate people to join the Afghan resistance, but this new CD does not aim for that. Rather, it aims to connect with the masses all over the world. The speeches selected for the CD are not simply propaganda material to instigate people to war, but instead present in-depth analysis on al-Qaeda's approach and clarification of their various actions and justifications.

"Generally, underground groups do not indulge in debate to justify their actions. Instead, they indulge in rhetoric, which attracts fresh blood to their cadre. However, when underground movements try to connect with the masses and try to cultivate their collective thinking, this indicates their ambitions to do mainstream activities, which include mass mobilization or mass participation in their programs."

alert Americans to the likelihood of protests and demonstrations surrounding the event.

...although investigators had not yet reached any conclusions, it was possible that “Taliban elements” had a hand in the kidnapping of Hayatullah Khan.

D'ya think? Journalists, scientists, coalition troops and aid workers in that part of the world must be very brave souls indeed.

Nah, it doesn't sound crazy.

There is a bunch of places in the US, some in the ME, a couple in Germany and Italy I would have liked to visit. Now, I won't travel outside of the USA and maybe only do some traveling in the USA.

...."those little critters we love".....

I have a wonderful Manx (no tail) cat, Dunbar. He hates using the litter box and only does so under duress.....he much prefers going outside. It has been so terribly cold here all week that he been under duress. He will meow at the door. I open the door. He quickly withdraws, shaking his paws, and refuses to go out. Last night, he was racing around making all kinds of racket. I just ignored him, rolled over in bed, and went back to sleep. This morning, I woke up to come eyeball to eyeball with a mouse, in two parts, on the pillow next to me..............Dunbar lying near it. (I swear he was grinning) He was so proud of his kill. First mouse we have had in years, and he is no more.

Just gotta love those little critters.

US on the scent of terror money in Pakistan
By Syed Saleem Shahzad
12/6/05

KARACHI - Beyond the tragedy of more than 70,000 lives being lost in the October 8 earthquake that devastated large sections of Pakistan-administered Kashmir, the disaster alerted US intelligence to the fact that the financial conduits that feed militancy and terror remain very much intact.

At very short notice, millions of dollars poured into the coffers of the jihadi group Jamaatut Dawa (formerly Lashkar-i-Taiba), allowing it to immediately take over relief operations in Kashmir while the Pakistan government dallied.

As a direct consequence of this realization, the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) once again prevailed on Islamabad to launch an offensive against al-Qaeda-linked foreign elements sheltering in the country, notably in the North and South Waziristan tribal areas on the border with Afghanistan.
