I think I found somebody to take on Ed Rendell for Governor of Pennsylvania. I found this web page on the internet and I think I know who I will vote for. Do you think he has a chance?

Do leopard have spots? Do zebras have stipes? I'd say he's got at least a 50% chance.....

This the same guy that does sports? Swami?

This the same guy that does sports? Swami?Lynn Swann - Hall of Fame receiver for the Pittsburg Steelers - I believe he was on all four Super Bowl teams. He does TV sports reporting, comes across as warm, and intelligent on TV - I've got to believe he could take out Rendell
To: BipolarBob
One in the same and I met him once. He was polite and a gentleman. I hope he runs and wins.

In order to win, he's got to take Pittsburg and Philadelphia, or at least severely cut into Rendell's lead there. Since Philly is 80%Dem to 20%(on a good day) Republican, he would have his work cut out for him. However, his name recognition might get him a head start on anyone else the Republicans put up. Also, what could initially be perceived as a negative, i.e. lack of government experience, might actually be a positive since Pennsylvanians are rather riled up about the stealth pay raise the Legislature pushed through. This has generated quite a bit of anti-incumbent sentiment.
Perhaps the biggest boost Swann could give to his campaign is to come out solidly in favor of a proposal coming up in the House for debate in November which would eliminate both personal and business property taxes completely. The state sales tax would be lowered from 6% to 5%, but would be expanded to cover services instead of simply being on goods. All school funding, which currently comes from property taxes would come from the revised income tax. Additionally, the portion of the Philadelphia City Wage tax (which is currently just a bit above 4.3% for residents and 3.8% for non-residents working in the city) that goes to fund the Philadelphia Public Schools would have to be eliminated. This will play really well both in the city as well as in the suburbs. The elimination of the business property tax would also be a great incentive to get businesses to move into the city again.
For those in Pa. who haven't heard of the proposal, they have a webpage at .

One of the greatest catches ever made in the NFL.

I've heard he's conservative, but do you know where he is on abortion, eminent domain, and guns?
To: old and tired
I've looked at his website. He's definitely pro-life. He appears to favor guns, since he's looking for support from gunowners, but I don't see his views clearly outlined. I don't know about eminent domain.
He's looking good so far. Run, Swanni, Run!
To: kevkrom
He'd do quite well in Pittsburgh, I think. Might even break 60% in Allegheny County.

He seems to be good on the issues. I'd compare him to SC Governor Mark Sanford.

Common, there's gotta be a stadium full of STEELER fans that would vote for Swanni in a heartbeat to be their Gov! I'd say he's earned the right to tout his name about and he's a good communicator or he'd not still be on FOX doing tv interviews...

From his webpage:
Lynn Swann believes that the Commonwealth has an obligation to protect its citizens, and that includes the most innocent among us, the unborn. As Governor, Lynn Swann would support extending protections to the unborn. If the Supreme Court overturns Roe. Vs. Wade, Lynn Swann would sign a bill the legislature sends him extending additional protections to the unborn. Until that time, Lynn Swann will continue attempting to create a culture of life, both by using legislation as well as using the bully pulpit of the office. He will work to reduce the numbers of abortions by encouraging alternatives, including adoption and abstinence. There is more. Go to the link below and click on vision:

Does it matter what he believes or only that he might be able to win?
What if he is worse than Rendell? (I know, that's hard to do.)
Did you know that he is backed by Bob Jubelirer? Is that who you want as governor? Someone who is indebted to and controlled by the current corrupt Senate leader?
I don't.

Does anyone know he gave some nice donations to Kerry's Senate campaign in '96 and '97?
Does anyone know he is on the board at Heinz?
