Actually, I was hoping the the GOP would fire back and change several senate rules to stop the abuse by the dems. They are hell bent on abusing ever rule in the book to bend the truth to get what they want.

"Or is that something that this "rule 21" overrides?"

As a matter of fact, rule 21 demands secrecy. The closed sessions are only for matters of national security and must remain secret. No phones, pagers, or other electronic recording devices are allowed in the Senate during rule 21 closed sessions.

It was, this whole thing was designed to keep the cable news nets focused on WMDs.

Just wondering- was Frist planning to do anything special before the Dems pulled this stunt? Is this a desperate move on the Dem's part, to side-track the GOP?

I think we should be changing the rules of the Senate to reduce the ability and power of the Dems...for starters. When the split was 51/49 we compromised with the Dems to give them more authority. I don't believe we've ever "rebalanced" the Senate.

We did!

I think the spending cuts we're talking about should totally target Dem districts and the GOP should FORCE the matter through.

Silly!

I think we should employ the Constitutional option.

We probably will.

I think Bush should get off his butt and start waging a PR battle to fight for the minds of the public.

Bush is the most active President I have ever known. Unfortunately, one almost has to look at the White House website or the Day in the Life thread here on FR to know all that he is doing daily

When, not if, the dems try to shut down the Senate, the Senate GOP leadership should threaten with everything they have and then, upon the first refusal to comply by the Dems, enact their threats.

Were you interested in politics when Newt Gingrich thought that shutting down the Congress would be a good idea?

I think we should be starting up the new versions of the PACS, like the Dems did in 2004 and pushing big time money to conservative candidates from the school board to the city council to the Senate supporting ONLY those who toe the line and are engaged in this fight.

Go for it!

I'm sure I can come up with more.

You really did not address the issue of anti-Bush media.

"At a minimum, this will rally the moonbats."

True, but the moonbats are not GOP voters or even potential GOP voters so it doesn't matter. What matters is how Republicans and centrist swing voters view this cheap political trick. I believe these people widely disapprove of this kind of deceptive stunt that disrupts the normal senate business. In politics and business, always talk to your supporters first in a lanuage they understand. Solidify your base first, then persuade the swing voters. The moonbats are largely irrelevant to us, with one exception: they provide us with a good material to use to fire up our base.

I just saw Kitt Bond on FNC. I think the difference is most of the dems seem to talk off of the same concise message and most of the Replicans free lance. I'm not sure if Frist can do much about this, but it is a bit of a problem.

Bond has many good points but not much of a sound bite. The dems seem to know they are on TV.

Not that I would ever wish for the democrats to have a majority ever again, but if they ever hope to, they are in desperate need of new leadership. Maybe some one who has some sanity would be a step in the right direction.

"The memo" from the Rockefeller staffer with the Democrat plan for impeachment?

Yes, the one where they say they must wait for the right time to pull the trigger because they'll get only one chance.

And I will tell you what, Jorge, it is the ONE thing that infuriates me about the president/administration. It would be preferable to have the Senators conduct this task.

But since the Senators have no spine, I would expect the president to AT LEAST remind the public of the things I posted. It would keep morale high among our military and support for them and the war would increase.

It's unconscionable that this has not been done.

"They want to discuss pre war intelligence and WMD."

Why didn't they discuss it pre-war? By the way, how many of these Democrats do we have on record as saying Saddam had or was planning to manufacture WMDs?

And these statements were made BEFORE Bush was elected...

Perception is a funny thing. We all know Hissy Matthews is a liberal cry-baby. But after his comments today, here's what the lefties at americablog.org think:

Chris Matthews [should be] fired over the fake Italian American slamming memo, and his Swiftboating of the Democratic Party again. Matthews is a shameless rightwing hack

The democrats just keep handing the Republican more and more presents for next year. This is fun. 8) Stupid democrats. They just don't get that most people in the country do not agree with them, and every first Wednesday of November, they have another brain fart and forget the lesson they were taught all over again. 8) Gotta love it.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, my memory ain't what it used to be, but isn't this just what those Dem. e-mails that were uncovered a year or so ago said they were supposed to do? That is, to cause any and all kinds of obstructions to prevent Pres. Bush from appointing a conservative justice.
