Italian boys get gunshots not treats for Halloween

ROME, Nov 1 (Reuters) - Two Italian boys were recovering in hospital on Tuesday after a 70-year-old man shot them with his hunting rifle because he was frightened by their Halloween costumes.

The 14-year-old boys, dressed as demons, had knocked on the pensioner's door during an evening of "trick or treat" near the northern town of Turin and set off a firecracker.

When the door opened, instead of a treat, the pensioner fired four shots at the boys having been scared by the noise and their strange outfits, agency ANSA said.

Police arrested the man, who lived alone and was the victim of several robberies, for attempted murder, ANSA said. Police said the boys' lives were not in danger but one risked losing an eye.

The tradition of asking neighbours for sweets or money on Halloween is relatively new to Italy but is gaining popularity.

See?

It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye.

Someone once told me, "It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt...then it's hilarious."

And no, it wasn't about getting shot at and almost losing an eye.

No wonder Europeans don't like Halloween. It's for little kids, not teenagers and adults!

The set off a firecracker outside his door. As the British would say, they were gagging to get shot and they got their wish.

I'm sure this has something to do with it also.

Being charged with attempted murder seems over the top.

"70-year-old man shot them with his hunting rifle because he was frightened by their Halloween costumes."

That doesn`t appear to be a quote by the man, so is it the writers opinion or did the man say this?

I have a sneeky feeling it wasn`t the costumes that frightened the man. Just a hunch.....

I suspect that his hunting rifle was a shot gun loaded with bird shot.

This is somewhat reminiscent of a tragedy of a few years ago in the US where an elderly person shot a Japanese-American kid to death under slightly different circumstances (but perhaps comparable in some ways), and the left has routinely used it ever since to illustrate supposed American racism and the supposed danger of guns in the hands of citizens.

Since this did not take place in America, and apparently did not include a white perp and a non-white or other "minority" victim, it does not fit neatly into the left's dearly-beloved anti-American narrative (just as neither black-on-black violence nor homosexual-on-homosexual violence helps to advance their anti-American agenda), and so unless they can find some lie or angle for exploiting this in a way that destroys freedom and human rights, they will ignore this crime.

Maybe some expatriate or non-American Freepers can report on Halloween occurring outside of North America.
