What's more, I seem to recall (from a book I read about a family that sailed around the world) that everybody in the cruising community and the merchant service for that matter knows that quite a lot of the Pacific charts are obsolete and outdated (many were actually surveyed by Captain Cook and haven't been updated since!) What's more, since GPS came in, we're discovering that even more recent charts are off because of local magnetic variations.

Which means that even if you accept their "my dog ate the homework" excuse about the charts, they should have known and prepared for the likelihood that the charts were going to be off.

In other words, you idiots, post the (*&&(^%*^%$ lookout!

Was that French operation in sinking the Rainbow warrior multi or unilateral?

Unilateral, IIRC. The French were keeping the greenieweenies out of their nuke test area.

However, the Muslims have NO SAY in French policy. That's why the headscarf issue was rammed down their throat, "Like it or not" style. Another "multi-lateral" decision where France consulted with the EU and others right? No.

The French will expect Poland to conform to the EU on issues of abortion, homosexuality, capital punishment etc, but France will do what it wants. :) That's the reality within the EU. The French voted against an EU Constitution because the French think "national" and "uni-lateral".

When convenient they will use this word (It has a negative connotation) describing the US (Who created the UN, NATO and acts multi-lateral in nearly all cases). However, it is they who have a polarized society where the Muslims are on the bottom of the food chain with no chance of rising. How many Muslims do you see in French politics? Those in power are the Philippiens and Chirac’s. France –IS- a colonial European nation that thinks nationalistic and “uni”-lateral. Many in Europe are “starting” to figure that out.

read on their website that all their vessels are powered by hemp-fired boilers.

...and the smokestacks vent inside the passenger compartment... '-)

It only took 11 posts for someone to mention the only positive thing the French have done, sinking the Rainbow warrior!

For a minute I thought Jesse Jackson was taking his act overseas.

Good morning.
"I was being sarcastic."

When it comes to the French, how can one not be sarcastic?

From Greenpeace regarding the French incident:

I guess a bunch of stoned hippies can, though.

They always try to blame the chart. A bull in a china shop might complain the aisles are too narrow.

Ex-freaking-zactly!! They think people cause global warming and the hurricanes. Lol, it's a cycle that has been going on for millenia and will continue to do so. I would like to know who to blame for the Ice age.

Can someone post a link or explain what they 'think' global warming has to do with coral reef destruction? I am upset when boats tear up seagrass beds and coral reefs, especially ones that are charted b/c they do take so long to regenerate, but I don't see any connection to global warming (the natural cycle, IMO)

There is quite a difference from road driving, but boat captains should know the areas to expect incorrect mapping and GPS info and to have a dependable depth finder and a lookout. Usually, I am not for more laws, but I feel boats that carry more than 6-8 people should be required to have a driver that knows the boating laws and obtains a license. So much damage is caused by boats with captains ignorant of boating safety.

Yes well, frankly the European Union is essentially doing by other means what Napoleon and the Kaiser werent able to. The french eagles gleam across europe again, and in GermanY untermensch poles are doing all the dirty work.

And of course france and germany control EU domestic and foreign policy for the most part. Sneaky, but effectove. Theyve got the rest of Europe begging to be let in and imagining theyve been done a favor.

Anyone with a GPS (even good quality) knows that it can be off by several hundred feet in areas that have current mapping. With hurricane Wilma, boaters here are advised to navigate at their own risk b/c of geographical changes rendering the mapping much more inaccurate. Their fine should have been MUCH more than what it was b/c of the large area of damage.
