Father Jeffrey T. Robideau of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lansing, Mich., is speaking out in defense of Duquesne University student Ryan Miner, who, according to a report from LifeSiteNews.com, has been punished for statements he made, pertaining to homosexuality, "on a website which had no connection to the [Catholic] school."
Father Robideau, author of the book Homosexuality: A Look at Catholic Teaching, told me the following (via e-mail, slightly edited):
"I sent my book to several people in various offices at the school with the following letter:
"Dear Duquesne University faculty, staff and students
"Responding to recent news reports about your school, the following information may be helpful.
"If Ryan Miner stated that homosexuality, meaning the homosexual act, is 'subhuman,' then he is correct about Catholic Church teaching. How can speaking the truth be contrary to your school's code of conduct policy? It is always the policy of the Catholic Church to speak the truth.
"Homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered. If you or your school says otherwise, then you are in violation of Catholic teaching a far greater crime and a sin.
"By virtue of being intrinsically disordered, homosexuality is not a human act, but is a depravity and an abomination as Sacred Scripture, the Church and the Catechism all state so clearly.
"To help you fully understand the Catholic teaching on natural law as it pertains to the disordered nature of homosexuality, please read the enclosed book.
"I do hope you will assist your school in recognizing the error of its way."

Catholic University Threatening to Expel Student for Calling Homosexual Acts 'Subhuman'
Expulsion For Gay Comments? Duquesne Student Resists Punishment
Go Father!, Go!
I like your tagline.
BTTT
Homosexual Agenda Ping.
Yes! Good for this priest. What I want to know is what the University dudes - I mean officials in suits - said in reply. Waiting for the "rest of the story". I have a strong suspicion that the complaints had something to do with Ryan Miner's disapproval of the Gay Straight Alliance Club being hosted by a Catholic university.
Freepmail me AND DirtyHarryY2K if you want on/off this pinglist.
Let's stick to the language of the catechism. Homosexual activity is intrinsically disordered. The term "subhuman" lends itself to misconstrual and misunderstanding. That said, the student has freedom of speech rights that should be respected.

"I like your tagline."
It took me 10 seconds but I got it.
No good deed goes unpunished.
PING!!!!!!!!!
Awesome, Padre!
Duquesne is infested with liberals. It's a den of inequity. I hope this will shed some real light on the agenda at Duquesne.
A Catholic institution that would consider a policy of non-discrimination based on sexual orientation, AND a Gay-Straight alliance sounds like it's gone off the rails a bit.
I'd rather die than submit to it.
I agree. It's better to say that homosexual acts are disordered than subhuman. Or to say that they are sinful.
To err is human. To sin is human. Sin can lead to damnation if it is not repented and forgiven, but you are still human while you are doing it.
This priest is quite right to warn the authorities at Duquesne that they are taking the wrong path. But I think he should do it a little more carefully. The word "subhuman" is too easily transferred from the sin to the sinner. The Catholic position should be to hate the sin and love the sinner. Indeed, Duquesne should be teaching homosexuals Catholic truths, because there is nothing charitable about encouraging sinners to keep on sinning.
Truth --- gotta love it!
You're either with God or you're against Him. Good job priest of siding with the compassionate God.
