There's pahlenty in my children's father's family (don't ask me why).....because of them, I always thought most Italians were Democrats....I later learned, to my surprise, there are many Republican Italians. My children's aunt (by marriage) is a Republican....I think she's working on her husband and the rest of the family. : )

I wonder what part of Italy Alito's family came from, North or South, as well as what part Scalia's family came from. Alito's father came to the US in 1914 as a child with his family. Apparently immigrants from Southern Italy (including Sicily) were treated worse by "old stock" Americans than Northern Italians were. The grandparents of the "progressive" Democrats of today who will bash Alito for being Italian-American and a Catholic probably considered his grandparents to be undesirables who should be kept out of America.
