liberal arts degree

The community college where I am from is trying to become a "liberal arts" school, abandoning such programs as agrictulture which is dumb for being the farm area it is. At the time I went there I got a good education and had very good teachers, almost and in many cases equal to many I had at the private religious university I attended.

My kid had to write a paper in freshmen sociology (required course) last spring. He told me if he wrote it the way he really thinks he'll get an F on it. Instead, he wrote it as if he were a communist/socialist. It was the biggest pile of steaming BS ever, The absurdity of it set us all to howling laughter.

He got an A on the paper.

Hehehehe:) I used to try that a little on certain essay questions, but my teachers usually saw through it. My brother (as a junior in high school last year) wrote a VERY nice paper on the airplane trip he took in a Cessna with me and my other brother. We flew around probably half the country. He also wrote another one about the way he looks up to his sister.

The English teacher gave him rave comments. I appreciated the teacher for doing that. They were VERY well-written papers too. I was very proud of my brother.

"It's about the money."- On this I will agree with you. In Dallas less than 60% of all education dollars goes to classroom expenses, the balance is for the big salaries at the headquarters. It is bloated.

I can see that. I try to have each child ready to move on. However, I have also seen other cases where the parent insisted that the child move on for social reasons.

Too many people think that schooling makes people smart.

The best and the brightest will not be found inside these drear walls, if lucky, you may locate their footprints there someday.
