This is a dumb article. Hollywood doesn't need to bring back the production code (people like sex and violence), they need to respond to the market place. Movies have become too politically correct; one example is how they force females into actions roles, which male action fans are just not interested in seeing. The white males that use to be in those roles (Arnold, Bruce, Sly, Mel, Clint....) a decade or so ago don't make those kind of movies anymore, so instead we get women or minorites. Hollywood is trying to send messages with their movies and neglecting what the market demands, thats the problem.
He wasn't advocating a return to the Hays Code.
I must respectfully disagree. I enjoy seeing women in action roles, and I know lots of guys (including conservative guys) who also enjoy them. Also, even with the increase in female action roles, men in action movies still far outnumber women.
You call this politically correct, but I know several young women and teenage girls who have taken an interest in guns (a very politically INcorrect thing) after seeing women in those so-called politically correct action roles. Also, I've heard that several of the actresses themselves, after learning about guns for their roles, have come to enjoy shooting and lost their gun-phobia that's so common in liberal thinking. What you call political correctness is helping the conservative cause.
Yeah Independence Day did terribly with Will Smith as the lead.
And so did Hitch...
oh wait, they didn't.
I agree women in action roles is getting lame. But having people OTHER than white men in those roles is not a bad thing, nor does it doom the movie to financial failure.
Also, did you read the article? Much of it was descriptive and very informative to me to know there are rightists in Hollywood. Not sure where you get the idea that it's main theme is the production code.
