My mom had a blood transfusion many years ago when all they did was type the blood. She died in 1998 of hepatitis C. I'll never forget how she went from a healthy woman of 72 (who'd fish and enjoy life) to a woman who wasted away to nothing.

My SIL just had a liver transplant a few years ago from the effects of liver failure and cancer from Hep C contracted during the early 80's. Buy blood was probably a bad idea considering the pool that you would get from doing so.
